Business Organizations and Their Environments Business Environments: Theory and Practice The environments of business organizations consist of those internal and external factors that influence business operations. While internal forces can be controlled by the organization, external ones may be beyond its control. Organizations need to understand various business environmental conditions which are likely to have an impact on the day to day operations of the company. For organizations to compete with other organizations at the global level, they need to monitor and acclimatize to the ever changing business environment (Campbell and Craig, 2005). The external business environment plays a very important role in how organizations handle their marketing strategies. I have observed that many organizations have to rely on outside forces when they are marketing their goods. For instance, I have noticed that for a product to do well in the market, the company producing it will have to carry out a through research to find out what exactly customers want or need. Although marketing strategies are created to enable a company gain as much as possible from its sale of a certain product, it is a fact that they are created to serve the needs of customers who are not part of the inner workings of a company. Technology is another business environmental factor that most organizations do not have much control over. The technology available today was not there a few years back. Business organizations have had to restructure their operations to make room for technological improvements (Campbell and Craig, 2005). Technology in businesses serves a lot of purposes, from information management to the production of quality goods and services. Through technology, organizations can be as innovative as they possibly can. Information sharing within the organization is also enhanced through the use of technology. Business organizations are clamoring for the latest technology in order to beat their competitors in sales and in market share. It is therefore correct to say that technology has greatly shaped how business is carried out in many of today’s organizations. The economic environment has also played a great role in the operations of organizations. A country’s general economic environment can affect an organization’s production and market opportunities. In the UK, where the economy is mainly stable, most organizations normally have high productivity and there is also a vast market for those products. However, in some pats of the world, the economy is not as strong and many business organizations suffer in terms of production and lack of markets for their products. The socio-cultural environment is also important in business operations as it determines how well the organizations goods or services will be accepted in a certain region. Understanding the business environment is important for organizations to know the opportunities that are available to them. Understanding the environment will also enable business organizations know the threats that they must deal with as they enhance their presence in the market place. Personal and Professional Goals One of my personal goals was to become a better business person after my course. To achieve this goal, I was to ensure that I got everything from my lectures. Mi was to find out as much as I could about business organizations and their environments so that I would know how to manage my own business when the time comes. One of my professional goals is to use my skills and knowledge to ensure that business is profitable. My personal and professional goals are in line with each other, that is, they compliment each other. From what I learn in class, I will be able to gain skills and knowledge about how to make an organizational business successful. The study of business organizations and their environments will go along way in enabling me to understand the various forces in the business environment that will affect the personal and professional goals I have for my business. Theoretical knowledge of how these environment factors may influence business operations is very important. In planning for business strategies through which I will realize my personal and professional goals, I will need to consider all these environments; otherwise, I am likely to not achieve whatever it is I set out to achieve. Since my ultimate goal is to make profits for my business and become a major competitor in the market, I will need to study and analyze the situation as it is. I will need to understand the economics, socio-cultural factors, technology, environmental and any other business environment factors that may have an influence in my operations. Once I consider all the business organization environments that have a role to play in the business processes of my organization, I will be able to map out a clear pathway for the business so that I will be able to apply my skills and knowledge as I try to build a profitable company. I believe that the theory I learn in class will go a long way in helping me make practical decisions in adapting my organization to the changing business environments. In the end, I believe that I will be able to achieve and even surpass some of my personal and professional objectives. Information in Business Organization Environments Business organizations need to have information regarding different aspects of operations in order to survive in this increasingly competitive world. Business in the modern world is largely dynamic, a fact that has been enabled by information sharing. Information dissemination in an organization should support business operations and processes. It should make it easier for the organization’s decision makers to make those decisions that will propel business to new heights. Companies normally use the information they have at hand to analyze the environments in which they exist so as to maximize on their resources and achieve their business objectives. The business organization, Melvin’s Tea is one of the companies that have put the information they have about their environment into good use. The company has full access to information regarding the Tea industry in the UK and across the world. The tea producers also have enough information concerning the needs and wants of their target consumers. The company also possesses information regarding the economic, legal, socio-cultural and technologic business environments that surround it. The economic information is normally available from financial publications which usually have detailed analyses of the financial situation of organizations, markets and countries. The company uses this information to plan its financial operations so as to make the maximum amount of profits at any one time. Information regarding technology is very important in the tea industry. Today the success of most business organizations is measures by the extent to which they can incorporate different forms of technology into their daily operations. Melvin’s Tea Company has invested a lot in technology. The company gets information about technology that they can use from publications, the media and from conferences. The company’s staff is highly technologically savvy, and when there is a new development in the technological world, they are normally in a position to use it for the greater good of the company. Melvin’s is well known for its high quality tea products. This would not be possible if the company did not use its knowledge of technology into use while innovating quality products for its customers. It is through its vast resourcefulness that Melvin’s Tea has managed to become the market leader it currently is. There is no denying the fact that possession of vital business environment information has enabled the company to penetrate the market in a way that many industry players cannot. The company has been able to reach a large percentage of tea consumers because it understands what their needs are and is well equipped to ensure that all these needs are met in full.
