The events industry, in particular, has implemented and applied sustainable work practices in the organization and management of their activities and events. They have also made use of new technologies that have recently been developed by companies who exist for environmental purposes. Furthermore, the players in the events industry have made efforts in advertising campaigns and sending out messages that an adjustment in an individual’s lifestyle is necessary to conserve and protect natural resources (Edwards 2005 ).

The MPI or the Meeting Professionals International remains to be a leading example of a player in the events industry that promotes and applies sustainable practices. Its most recent achievement in relation to their responsibility commitment towards social events is when it was turned into the first organization of the events industry to receive certification of the British Standard 8901in April of 2008. This certification was granted as a guide in the planning and organization of the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London, England.

This MPI event particularly concentrated on the sustainability of environmental, economic and social aspects. To put the BS 8901 into operation will require the MPI to undergo three stages during their event- the planning of the pre-event, the implementation of the standards during the actual event, and the review after the event. Through this event, the MPI would like to provide a guide for individuals working in the events industry to organize, implement and manage sustainable events and activities (Callenbach 1993).

Hosts of events such as the Queen Elizabeth Conference Center have also recognized their responsibility in implementing and maintaining sustainable practices and in enhancing their business activities for the natural environment to be safe and protected (Whitehead 2003).
