 Emirate Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat). Introduction Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat) is telecommunication provider established as a joint-stock company in 1976 by a British Company, Aerado Limited and local partners to offer telecommunication services (Etisalat, 2015). The structure of ownership changed in 1983 after the United Arab Emirates Government acquired 60% shares while the rest were traded publically. It is the largest telecommunications services provider in the Middle East and one of the leading corporations in the six Arab nations of the Gulf Corporation Council. The company has a market value of about US$22 billion and total annual revenue of more than US$9 billion (Etisalat, 2015). The company is established on the idea that developing innovative networks will provide people with an opportunity to learn, develop and grow. Its goal is to create opportunities and help people achieve their objectives. Concept Etisalat is established on three values that include openness, energy and enablement. Etisalat cultivates the value of openness by being direct, fair and honest in business deals and by being friendly and sociable to their suppliers, customers and employees. The company values and foster energy and enthusiasm required for achieving the best performance in business and are prepared for the future opportunities and challenges (Etisalat, 2015). Finally, the corporation focuses on creating new opportunities and enabling people to attain their goals. Etisalat’s vision states what the company offers and how they do it, for whom and the reason or intended results. It states as follows; “People will effortlessly move around the world, staying in touch with family, making new friends as they go, as well as developing new interests. Businesses of all sizes, no longer limited by distance, will be able to reach new markets. Innovative technologies will open up fresh opportunities across the globe, allowing the supply of new goods and services to everyone who wants them” (Etisalat, 2015). Location Planning The UAEs Etisalat corporation has it is headquartered in Abu Dhabi and other three regional offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates (Etisalat, 2015). UAE is the central business region with a focus from across the globe. The mobile penetration in the region is the highest globally having reached over 200% penetration. The region has highly developed technological infrastructures. Therefore, the location offers the corporation with an opportunity for advancing operations to reach individuals and business. It has over 85% fiber-optic penetration and over one million internet subscribers. Etisalat has its operations in about fifteen countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It operates other business units to offer other services besides telecommunication services such as training and consultancy, facility management, SIM card manufacturing, submarine cable laying services, etc. Also, it has interests in other companies such as Thuraya, PTCL, etc. (Etisalat, 2015). It aims at reaching businesses and individuals globally with their products and services to enable them develop, learn and grow. Process Since its establishment, the corporation has advanced by venturing into modern telecom infrastructures and expanded its operations nationally and internationally. The enterprise is organized into several industry sectors such as transportation and logistics, banking and finance, healthcare and airlines. The business solutions groups provide solutions to these segments in various areas. For instance, application integration and project management offer data services, voice and e-business infrastructure solutions such as managed end-to- solutions, eSecurtiy and eHosting to facilitate customers to concentrate on their primary business (Etisalat, 2015). Etisalat uses work order process that deals with processing units and helps in trailing the work order of the company. Work order process has several characteristics such as logically designed work order entry, ease of generating customer orders, easier prioritisation of job functions depending on quality, time and cost, etc. (Etisalat, 2015). Etisalat uses process mapping to streamline its operations. The process mapping follows specific steps. For instance, Etisalat pursues telecommunication services as it belongs to the telecommunication industry. The company has established a group of the customer as a strategy for ensuring proper positioning of its components. Also, it develops strategies based on its position and that of customer in the market. It describes the events and incorporates any additional information to ensure all necessary groups have been taken into consideration (Etisalat, 2015). The final stage involves merging of all sub services and sub-products to obtain complete products and services. Etisalat uses input process output models to deal with the issues and ensure delivery of quality services. Input process model involves feeding of information regarding issues with telecommunication services into the company (Etisalat, 2015). The information is processed and stored while the response is delivered to the customers. The models ensure customer issues are addressed amicably to promote and maintain good relationship with the customers. Inventory Management Etisalat manages its inventory by working out the inventory turnover (cost of goods sold/average inventory) for the entire year. This guides the company to estimate the number of days goods on sale may be available in the inventory. Once the company has determined the average daily inventory, they determine the frequency of replacing the sold stock. Depending on the growing demand the company continues to increase inventory gradually to meet customer demand. For instance, the turnover for 2012, 2013 and 2014 were 18.66, 23.34 and 23.63 million respectively (Etisalat, 2015). However, during holidays the company increases the average inventory in anticipation of higher sales. Layout The process layout of Etisalat ensures the company follows particular steps to deliver the customer requirements. The first step begins with customers visiting the company and filling the application for the services they intend to receive, and company’s IT system gets updated as per the requirement (Etisalat, 2015). Then work order then transmitted to the quality team for review. After reviewing the work order gets released from the company and service work, is designed for each process. Afterward, the work order is printed with customer services’ name and the supervisor sorts and distributes them equally among the company’s technicians. The supervisor maintains these records as the technicians engage in working on the customer order. After completion of the order successfully the customer signs and then returned to the main office for examination by the supervisor (Etisalat, 2015). The bill is sent to the client for clearance. Quality Management Total quality management (TQM) involves minimizing errors and optimal utilization of resources to maximize customer satisfaction. The Etisalat’s main performance objectives are quality, flexibility, cost, dependability and time (Etisalat, 2015). The company focuses on total quality management as a strategy for gaining strategic competitiveness in the industry. One method the company uses for total quality management is by improving the quality of the equipment they use for providing the services. Also, Etisalat ensures they hire the most competent workers and train them to deliver the best services to the customers (Etisalat, 2015). They endeavor to offer services quality services that no other competitor in the industry can offer. Conclusion Etisalat is a well-established company in telecommunication industry which offers the best telecommunication industry in UAE. It has a large client base in Middle East, Africa and Asia because of its ability to provide quality services to the customers. Its strategic location in global business hub gives them the competitive advantage of serving well-established firms and individuals. The company focuses on delivering the best services to the clients than any other competitor.
