BLOGS In the current technology-oriented world, blogs are gaining dominance due to the unsurpassed quality of information that they provide.Blogging is being embraced by many organizations an element that has seen the mushrooming of popular blogs such as Huffington Post, TMZ, Mashabe, Gizmodo, LifeHucker, Business Insider, Gawker, The Daily Beast, Tech Crunch, and Perez Hilton. Blogs have comment field where people post their feedback regarding the blogger’s information, and a blogger must be emotionally and psychologically be prepared to handle criticism and junky feedbacks.

Companies and executives including Zappos’ Tony Hsieh, Donato Montanaro theTradeKing CEO, Levick Strategic Communications CEO Richard Levick, Forrester;s George Colony, History Factory’s CEO Bruce Weindruch blog to reflect their online personality and the company’s culture.Organizations maintain blogs and strive to link them with social media to warrant that they are informed about issues before they become detrimental to a company’s reputation. The popularity of this blogs is partly attributable to their provision of quality information that evokes readers’ inquisitiveness and their provision of trackbacks and blog rolls.

With less barriers to entry and minimal risks, blogging provides a source of livelihood to thousands of bloggers who post excellent content and maintain sincere relationships via forums, commenting, social media, and promoting others, thus reinforcing the popularity of the blog. Bloggers create a platform where they post content advertising companies’ products and strive to create traffic – company counts the number of times the ad has been clicked and pays the blogger at the end of an agreed period (pay per click) (Agger, 189-205).

Most bloggers are running blogs for money motives, but a few others for purposes of information sharing. Blogs are advantageous over MSM since information is published to the public directly with no editing that often leads to confiscation and abstraction of vital information. Content in the MSM is more believable as it has been edited and proofread hence accuracy and plausibility is maintained. Blog posts are more persistent and searchable over MSM content, creating a laudable reference site.

Favorite list of blogs; Treehugger, Copyblogger, Dooce, Basic thinking, and Go fug yourself. These blogs offer customized, science and technology related content that bolster critical thinking and exposes readers to real-life issues in the managerial and social environment. Copyblogger is useful for this course as it provides consummate information on how to be heard online be it in marketing, press responses, idea sharing, and knowledge expansion.
