Google Company operates an estimated one million servers across the world, with more than one billion search requests every day. Google is the most visited search engine and website in the world. Google offers its search services in different languages. It is one of the best-performing corporations in the world (Google, 1). Google Company also owns YouTube and Blogger sites. Google has continued to grow since 1998 and has expanded its services and products to mobile phone operating systems. The company is headed by a CEO (Google, 1).
Though the company started by offering search engine services, the company has over the years endeavored to make life easier. The search engine has expanded over the past few years making it faster and smarter to the point that it understands that when you type “jaguar” you are seeking information on a car and not an animal (Google, 1). Some of the services and products offered by Google include book search, catalogs, currency conversion, calculator, definitions, phonebook, movies, maps, Google spreadsheet, Gmail, Google labs, Google Adwords, Google Scholar, Google+, Picasa, Google Mobile, and page creator (Google, 1).
Because of the nature of the operation of Google, the company lies under the midstream business segment. The midstream business segment is typified by processing, storage, and conveyance activities. Most of these activities in the midstream segment form part of most of the services offered by Google Incorporation. Google’s expansion through the acquisition of other smaller companies forms part of the company’s key developments. The company recently acquired DeepMind Technologies, an artificial intelligence organization based in London (Reuters, 1). This new acquisition brings in the ability to generate general-purpose knowledge algorithms. The company also bought out Green Throttle Games, gaming startup, Quest Visual, Songza, and Skybox Imaging (Reuters, 1). The company is also in talks to purchase InMobi-Business Standard. Additionally, the company plans to work with AOpen Incorporation in creating a hardware device that will use Google Chrome operating system to offer a platform for business use. Additionally, the company is working with BlackBerry limited to enable BES12, a podium that will manage gadgets furnished with android for work, a Google product that separates personal and business (Reuters, 1).
The company’s most recent key development was the unveiling of the new chrome bit that can transform any television into a smart TV. This is a dongle that is plugged into the HDMI port of a computer and transforms the TV into a computer (Reuters, 1). However, all is not well with Google; the company faces an anti-competitive and antitrust accusation from European Union. Additionally, the company is losing a privacy battle against Google Wallet where it has been accused of offering the personal information of users to third-party app developers (Reuters, 1).
