Illegal Immigration Illegal Immigration Illegal immigration is an issue that has received divided opinions from the various quotas. This is on the basis of the causes of the problem and how the United States governments should deal with this issue that is said to be negatively impacting on the nation and its citizens. Illegal immigration is an intergovernmental issue. The reason it is an intergovernmental issue is the involvement of the federal government, the state government and the local government (Shafritz & Russell, 2012).

If the illegal immigration issue is to be dealt with effectively, there is a pertinent role that deserves to be played by the stakeholders so that the negative effects that it has had in US are neutralized and mitigated. The federal government is tasked with the responsibility of taking care of border security, custom points and controlling the process of becoming an American citizen. Conversely, the state governments as well as the federal governments are tasked with the onus and charge of handling illegal immigration issues (Espenshade, 2005).

The state and the local governments provide education, health, medical and social services to the illegal immigrants. This is another reason the issue of illegal immigration is an intergovernmental one.Shafritz & Russell (2012) say that illegal immigration is an issue that has been politically significant. The US constitution has very little on the immigration issue, and this has given room for the issue to be used politically since there are no clear guidelines in the US Constitution for dealing with the issue.

Consequently, governments have always resorted to coming up with state laws that are meant to curb this issue. In the press, there have been divided opinions on the best why that the state and federal governments can use to handle and fully tackle this problem.Despite the divided opinions on the issue and the politicization of the matter, every member of the American society agrees that the issue needs to be dealt with and failing to do so will result in even more problems for both the state and the federal government.

Solving the illegal immigration issue requires the full involvement in the various levels of governments. The reason this cooperation and collaboration is necessary is the fact that the matter is an issue that is cross cutting (Kennedy, 2004). No level of government is spared from the negative impacts of illegal immigration into America. The federal government is required to play the biggest role in handling the issue of the illegal immigration. This is because the federal government and the federal laws are always superior to the state government and the state laws.

Therefore, the federal government should pull up its sock in dealing with a cross-border point and the customs points. In addition to this, the federal government has certain responsibilities to the state government in dealing with the issue. The federal regime is required to back the state governments both financially and in terms of legislation that are meant to help handle the issues. Governments should be involved in laying down the required frameworks that are to be used in handling this problem.

This collaboration is what will tackle this intergovernmental issue or problemIllegal immigration is an issue that will continue being debated on is a solution is not found. The issue is across cutting one and therefore the federal, state and local governments need to work hand in hand to tackle it.ReferencesEspenshade, T. (2005).
