DELL Introduction In the past Dell, unlike most of its competitors, has not made any significant accomplishments in the smartphone technology and business. Resultantly, this has led to a lot of criticism for the past decade with most people questioning its proficiency even in its core field, which is computer technology (Damon 2011). In 2009, Dell launched its first ever smartphone that most of its supporters, consumers and other stakeholders had been waiting for with a lot of fanaticism, which is understandable considering its reputation in computer technology. The Mini 3i was among the biggest disappointments of the company as most of the reviews termed it as an attempt. The most disappointing thing was the location of the launch as the Chinese got the first experience being the aim market for Dell; evidently, this itself was substandard for the people in the west (Camp 2012). All the same, the phone looked splendid with a rare design; moreover, it had a built-in receiver and ran on an Open Mobile System. Once people heard about these and other features, the interest faded slowly; naturally, for a leading computer technology company, one would expect features such as 3G circuitry in an android phone manufactured in China. Most of the consumers also lamented about the lack of Wi-Fi in the smartphone; in fact, the only type of wireless network that the device had was Bluetooth. The touchscreen was better off with a screen resolution greater than that of the iPhone; appreciably, the camera was standard but not top class. However, to add on to the problems, the device lacked a favorable keyboard, which was disappointing as the iPhone and android Samsung phones launched before it had the same problem thus people expected an improvement on this model. Generally, the Dell Mini i3 smartphone was a downfall for the company and the only reason very few considered it was because of impressive features such as Micro SD card slot or the USB port. Essentially, Dell China and China Mobile faced the greatest challenge then, due to a lot of criticism; however, Dell took almost all the blame because this was their first smartphone and it seems China Mobile was not in support of launching the project because no updates have come up (Camp 2012). Decisively, Dell requires a new and unique smartphone to redeem the company as a whole and that particular division, definitely, the new gadget, better than the latest iPhone or android Samsung phones will meet the customers’ needs and act as a foundation for corporate social responsibility and development of the company. Dell Smartphone and its Unique Features Based on Customer Needs and Competitive Advantage Evidently, since 2009, there has been much advancement in smartphone technology with the leading companies focusing on adding greater and more impressive features for their net models. With this in mind, the Dell smartphone should be unique in its own way, but the company should not focus on extremely unconventional features such as 3D images or holograms; largely, this would be a waste of time, but the phone could have one or two key features that make it stand out from other smartphones by leading companies. The screen should be bigger in the range of 5 to 5.2 inches with arched edges to give it a more striking look; moreover, the smartphone should be wirier in design for the sleek look that most people want today. The overall design will give the customers utter satisfaction and place it on a better competitive level in the smartphone market. The touchscreen could be high definition with covered with glass or even a harder and rare material for protection purposes. With the screen bigger and the HD display, the consumers will have a great experience when watching videos or using game applications. In the recent past, most of the smartphones have had poor reviews based on the keyboard or the sensitivity of the touchscreen because most people enjoy texting today. Reflectively, the Dell smartphone could make an improvement on the matter by integrating a feature that will assist in fast reply and efficiency too. The company can decide on using the double tap feature used in some social applications for the reply of texts enabling people to use more fingers on the keyboard; moreover, the phone can have a more efficient dictionary that contains most of the common words and acronyms used today. Unlike the earlier version of the dell smartphone, the new one should have the Wi-Fi feature and make it even more interesting by improving its ability to detect hotspots and the networks available. Instead of buying digital cameras, most consumers want a phone that has similar or better camera features in terms of focus, sensitivity, slow motion ability, optical image stabilization and advanced video topographies. Most smartphones’ cameras have the smile detection feature but very few have the blink detection one, this feature will definitely attract any customer’s attention. Among all other features, the battery life matters most because once the phone is off, none of them can work, hence a longer battery life that goes hand in hand with the size of the phone is recommendable. Moreover, the smartphone can have a number of ways to charge the battery; the most common is the solar rechargeable batteries and the portable power banks. Significantly, most of the new models of tablets have in-built projectors but no smartphone has been able to integrate the same yet (Smith 2014). Dell can consider having an in-built projector on the new smartphone located just below or next to the rear camera. This feature will apply for business presentations, watching videos and gaming- no need of the TV; moreover, with an extra body or voice control feature no customer can resist the Dell smartphone. Vision, Mission and Value Technically, Dell’s vision, mission and values entail listening, learning and delivering; moreover, for over two decades, Dell has dedicated it products and services to enabling everyone, despite the country and social background, to use technology as the facilitator of apprehending their dreams (Dell 2014). The new smartphone is more than enough to help customers in the realization of their dreams because it goes an extra mile of being part of the dream through its diverse and advanced features. Moreover, the smartphone will apply in; schools, home and work, helping Dell earn a significant amount of trust from customers in the process of delivering technology solutions as part of assisting them in making great achievements (Malison 2014). Through its great works in computer technology, Dell aims at being the most prosperous company internationally by conveying the best customer familiarity in the market; relatively, the Dell smartphone is a stepping-stone for its rise and dominance in the smartphone market too. Assertively, the combination of the smartphones and computers creates a bigger market and range of customers to serve. Social Responsibility, Culture and Ethic Principles Definitely, producing the new smartphone will act as incorporation and inculcation of corporate responsibility in delivering high values and the best to the society; naturally, most companies make one or two improvements in their new smartphone models but with this much, it is a guarantee for it to turn out well for everyone, but mostly the customers. Previously, the first smartphone had many complaints from customers, on design and features, but the new one sums it all up. Dell uses customers’ knowledge to counter their desires; the improvements such as the Wi-Fi and additions such as the in-built projector act as answer to many requests to facilitate customer understanding and allegiance (Dell 2014). Generally, the proposed product acts as a link between Dell and the consumers as widely expressed; furthermore, it will inspire the management to put more interest on the technological opportunities and threats in the division of smartphones.
