Rhetorical Analysis of an Organizational Website The Hollywood Website is a site that gives the current entertainment news, the latest movies and their trailers, celebrities and their photos, videos of events and facts concerning them, lists and box office where the movies are ranked according to the one that hits the most. The website is designed in a way that it is appealing to the reader and information can be accessed easily. The purpose of this essay is to show how the Hollywood website is marketed, promote celebrities and create an entertaining platform for its readers. By use of an original content that is latest and new, the website has managed to attract a lot of readers. These include latest movies that are produced in Hollywood and videos as well as top stories on top actor lifestyles. The website meets its aim by using a simple and professional design. It uses an artistic design to the name of their website that is well coloured to draw the reader’s attention. This is appealing to the eye, and at a glance, one is able to know the website’s name. According to Hunt (2011) a reader is likely to revisit a website if it contains all the information it claims to contain and does not provide or refer to unsolicited information. The Hollywood website has user friendly navigation; there are clear links to the various sections as described in the initial outline on the homepage. The content is arranged categorically in such a way that whatever one is looking for can be obtained at a glance, hence aiding to achieve its goal. Websites should be created with the viewer in mind, this implies that the time for browsing should be minimal and the content should be simple and easy to interpret and understand by the targeted viewers. Its simplicity in design of the Hollywood website has contributed immensely to its popularity among the young people (O'Connell, 1994). For instance, if one is looking for movies, they would go directly and click on the so named icon, hence getting the desired item. On other websites, there are many popup windows and links to unrelated websites which not only waste the viewer’s time, but also contribute to infection of personal computers by internet viruses. Lawrence, & Tavakol, (2007) in their book “Balanced Website Design: Optimizing Aesthetics, Usability and Purpose.” Propose that the use of carefully designed graphics on websites makes them more appealing and easier to browse that those with text. Certain graphics have been used to design the Hollywood website to assist the website meet its goals of being an entertainment as well as educative website. These include use of photos of various movies and star actors to attract the attention of the reader. The photos are coloured and enlarged for ease of visibility. Also, they are of high quality to attract online readers. Next to the photos are texts that try to explain to the reader what the pictorial image is all about. To draw the reader’s attention, the texts have been bolded and a font of adequate size used. These serve to make the reader see the content at first sight and be able to decide whether to read the content or not. It is a summary of the content inside, therefore the website uses simple, clear statement to achieve its goal. The website has also created a tool for socializing. Lisbeth (2007) suggests that by providing a platform where viewer’s can interact with a representative of the organization or chat with fellow viewers, a website is able to provide a link for efficient flow of information. By targeting a certain audience, the Hollywood website has brought many people to use internet in searching for movies or other entertainment related media. It has a section where one can share the contents they have found to be interesting or informative to fellow friends or the public. It also has pages like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where one can like and follow their pages and thus creating a larger market for them. Also, this makes it easy for the audience to interact with the website, because through the pages, the audience will make comments or like the content uploaded, hence acting as a feedback mechanism to the website. To be able to reach the organization directly, a website provides their contacts in a ‘contact us’ section. This gives their physical and contact addresses for ease of location. Also, they go ahead to give a site map for those people that might have a problem locating them. By showing their location, it shows their openness in being located and their business is genuine. Certain rules and regulations that must be adhered to are also given, failure of which may result in serious consequences. A section has also been created where in case of abuse, for example through the content written or pictorials, one may report for assistance. Through such policies, the behaviour of people when using the website is monitored thus promoting good discipline. The website has also given crucial business information for those who would like to purchase movies or other media online. This has been achieved by giving a brief overview of what the website is about in the search engines. Moreover, it has gone ahead to give the ‘about us’ section where it explains all the website is all about. Therefore, any online retailer that would seek further clarifications will be assisted in this section Security has also been provided. This safety ensures that there are no hackers around the website that may destroy the existing files. The website creates a platform for creating awareness of what is currently happening in the American entertainment industry. It also creates a social network where people can communicate and share information on varied topics and also a platform for socializing and making friends. It is a genuine site with content that is edited prior to publishing for purposes of monitoring and ensuring good discipline is maintained by app users. It is therefore a site one would recommend to the public for people seeking entertainment news. Works cited Hollywood.com, the website. Retrieved from: http://www.hollywood.com/. Hunt, B.
