Difference between Social Media Movements and Social Entrepreneurship Unit: Difference between Social Media Movements and Social EntrepreneurshipThere is a significant difference between the concept of social entrepreneurship and the idea of the social media movement. However, the social media tends to be a game changer for the social entrepreneurship. The social entrepreneurs rely on media to pursue and drive the social values in the society. Social entrepreneurs refer to the process of pursuing innovative and beneficial solutions to the problems of the society.

The aim and mission of the social entrepreneurs are to create and maintain the social values. Therefore, social entrepreneurs pursue opportunities to accomplish their goals and mission at the best interest of the society. With the best motives for the society, they can either run a business or none-profit organizations that would quench their social quest. On the other hand, social media movement refers to the use of social networks to serve the society with all kinds of information. The networks transmit messages about the culture, traditions, politics, beliefs, education and bodies of the society.

The messages reflect the values and the force for change of the society. The social media used are Facebook, twitter, YouTube, web pages, blogs, Myspace, newspaper, movies, television, radio, journals, books, magazines and billboards among others. All these social media serve to fuel and propel the social discussions. Also, there are social movements that serve to fight on behave of individuals of the society for their right. The social movements take the form of non-governmental organizations and greatly depend on social media to achieve their part (Roy, William G. 2010. 101-103).

The social media movements and social movements see business as the source of the social problems in the world. They do not think how the business could be a catalyst for solutions of the society problems. In regard to social entrepreneurs, they take a business to be a solution for the society problems. They search for a solution for a social- business related problem within the business sectors. They have an insight that the development of the way businesses operate in the society could fix the social-economic problems and open up the door for more opportunities.

In fact, the social entrepreneurs have a powerful drive and urge to serve the society. They do not just make money but empower individuals at a personal level and restore balance as well as flow to people in the world through economic, social, environmental and emotional ways. In social entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurs put much time to appraise and evaluate the society that would help them come up with business friendly social value. Despite the fact that time is money, the social entrepreneurs do not see it as a waste of time and money instead they budget a good chunk of their time without any pay until the enterprise sustains itself and employees.

Further, the social entrepreneurs are givers of the society. That is they are exercising a high level of generosity to individuals of the society. They use their firms to give support information, scholarship funds and empowerment to members of the society. On the other hand, the social activists and social media movements value time very much because they abide by the saying that time is money and they cannot afford to waste any time in pursuing social values. They also give to the society but with the expectation of receiving something in returns such as pay for the newspaper and other services.

The social entrepreneurs have more interest in the legacy than the current gain. They determine in creating long term changes that will still bear their legacy even after their death. They have a motive of leaving something behind for the future and not just having everything for themselves now. Moreover, social entrepreneurs are visionaries and can see the coming change in the future that the social activists and social media movements cannot envision. They know that to find real social solutions needs to slow down and step back to take a meta-view of the finer and the bigger picture.

Above all, the social entrepreneurs tend to understand the impact of their role to members of the society at large. The awareness of their impact enables them to be responsible for all their actions in the society. It is not they wish to see other members of the society suffer at the expense of their actions. Contrary to this, the social activists and social media movements do not take responsibility for their actions in the society. Despite the good things they offer the society, they also inflict pain and suffering to some members of the society.

They are well known for inciting against the governments and other stakeholders of the society or the public.
