Extract of sample "Communication as a Key Process"

ME: How are you today morning sir?

MANAGER: Am very good and am in very high spirits. I am hoping everything is fine and I am hoping work is going on as usual.

ME: Yes sir. Everything is going as it is supposed to and I am hoping that you would spare some time because there is something that I would like to discuss with you.

MANAGER: I suppose I could spare a moment of my time to listen to what you have to say. Please, let us step into my office.

ME: While I was looking at the figures in the accounting department, it came to my attention that some finances are missing. This might lead to a very serious financial disability for this firm, so I took out the time to track back the spending, and the results I got confirmed that it was you sir who took the money.

MANAGER: Yes I did take the money. It is my company and I can do whatever I want with the money.

ME: But sir, this might lead to a very serious financial crisis for the firm.

MANAGER: (Visibly angry) Why do you seem so much concerned and yet it is not your company? When you get your firm, then you will have the power to do whatever you want with it. As for this firm, it is mine.

ME: But sir, I did not mean to insult you. I just wanted to point out that this might lead to various consequences that might bring about financial ruin, bankruptcy and we could lose our jobs.

MANAGER: SO WHAT IF YOU LOSE YOUR JOB? I do not pay you to come and advise me. Can you get back to work now I do have matters to attend to?

In the above chart, the sender of the message was ME, while the receiver of the message was the MANAGER.  The channel that was used to send the message was verbal communication and it was done while the two were physically present at a given location; which in this case is the office. The misunderstanding that occurred was because a firm employee, who happens to be ME, made the mistake of trying to reason with the MANAGER about how his current behavior might lead to the bankruptcy of the firm. This misunderstanding would have been avoided had I not confronted the MANAGER (Ellis, 2009).

From the above communication, I would say that the message did not get through in the same way that it should have. The main causes of misunderstanding when it comes to communication result from; the type of message that is being passed along: the sender depending on how they are doing the passing on of the message and thirdly the receiver, depending on how they take the message (Ellis, 2009).
