Database Applications Database Applications Data warehouses Data warehouse is the consolidation of the enterprise data that mainlycenters on data analysis and reporting. Organizations design data warehouse to help them support the management of their decision-making processes. A variety of wide data containing coherent picture presentation illustrates the conditions of the business at any given time. The development of a data warehouse requires the expansion of data extraction systems such as operating systems, and database warehouse installations.

The production of information and data occurs from sources that are entail heterogeneous production nature since their generation involves periodic stages (Ponniah, 2011). Data martA data mart is an easy data warehouse that focuses on one area of functionality or subject like finance, marketing and sales. A single department builds and controls a data mart for the whole organization. The sources of data mart ranges from external data, central data warehouse to operational systems. The implementation of a data mart takes place in a series of steps.

The first step involves the designation of the schema that initiates the data request. The construction of the physical storage before populating the data mart with source systems data follows. One then accesses the data for initiating sound decisions. Finally, there is the management of data over time. Data miningData mining analyzes data from diverse perspectives before summarizing it into useful information. Useful information is capable of minimizing costs and increasing revenue or doing both.

The analysis of data requires the application of data mining software as an analytical tool. Data mining ensures analysis of data from different angles and dimensions. It also helps in categorizing and shortening the relationships of the data identified. Data mining seems to be a new term though it is not technologically. Over the years, many companies have applied the technology of data mining to sort through through supermarket scanner volumes besides conducting market research data analysis.

Business intelligenceBusiness intelligence is a blanket description of all the software applications use in the analysis of the raw data of an organization. The discipline of business intelligence comprises of reporting, online analytical processing, data mining and querying. It plays a crucial role in the improvement of decision-making, cutting costs and the recognition of new business opportunities by enterprising organizations. Besides, it can help the management of business organizations in the identification of those business processes that are inefficient and require reengineering.

Online analytical processing, OLAPOnline analytical processing is a technology for the organization of huge company databases and sustaining business intelligence. It enhances the queries that come with business intelligence. In this regard, the OLAP mainly focuses on reporting and querying in contrast to transactions processing. Apparently, the online transactional processing databases, stored in data warehouse provide the source of data for online analytical processing. Additionally, the OLAP data traces its roots from historical data.

However, they are aggregated into straightforward structures that allow refined analysis. Object-relational database management systems (ORDBMS)This entails management of database in a rational manner to encourage developers to integrate database with methods and data types of their own. The main objective of ORDBMS technology is to encourage developers to increase their abstraction levels for viewing the problem domain. ReferencesPonniah, P. (2011).
