College Synectics method has been developed after many hours study involving group procedures and problem handling (Nolan,1989). The Process Designing new clothes for students:First is to define the problem in this case the need for a new cloth for students for example, the current clothes materials are poor in quality and they easily get tattered. The problem faces many students who waste time by making frequently visit the tailor and uniform stores. The thought of changing the cloth and tailor has been thought but no concrete move has yet been made.

I will look at the options of designing a new uniform for the students. I would invite expert on material to advice on the cloth quality or consider the quality of seats and play surface at the schools or types of detergents used by most homes. These will be like alternative solutions to the problem.I would then ask some of the students a particular idea they liked in the above suggestion of likely solutions. Then I will look at other segments like the factory workers and how they handle factory cloths just for comparison.

This is a setting different from the student’s ones but can provide useful insights. I would borrow any that has the potential of addressing the problem. I would again ask the students to select from the suggestions the one they believe has the highest potential to solve there problem. The students then select two of the suggestions for further follow up. Both benefits and concerns are addressed such as the material selected might be cumbersome when washing. I will then focus on the highlighted issue and how to solve them.

Together with the student we discuss the concerns and overcome them. The result of this will be solution to the initial problem. The next stage I will clearly describe the problem and strategies and the expected results. For example, the exact dress how the design will be, the benefits and the changes expected by using the new cloth, specifications in cleaning and ironing. The final stage will be to set standards on how the performance of the clothe will be evaluated and this may include the duration of time it will last before getting torn or the ease with which to lean it or how susceptible is it to dust.
