Book Proposal: The Moral Advantage Following is the book proposal of “The Moral Advantage” byWilliam Damon. In 2004, “The Moral Advantage” was published bearing the ISBN code 978-1-60509-570-7. William Daman was born in Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Academy and went on to Harvard. Later, he received his doctorate in the developmental psychology from the University College Berkley in 1974 that made him an official developmental psychologist. Daman was a professor at the Brown University in Rhodes Island before he came to California and resumed office at the Stanford University as a professor of education.

Eighteen books, many articles, and book chapters on human development and education bear his name as a researcher and writer. His research work proved beneficial to the society as a whole and particularly to the field of developmental psychology. He contributed to the field of developmental psychology by writing several books on nurturing children for social and moral development. Having a vast research in education and in the field of psychology qualifies William for writing the book “Moral Advantage” (Daman).

The book is a mirror to interviews of 48 executives from various industries and businesses. These executives have unfolded secrets of the successful business world. Thus, the author analyses how morals and ethics significantly contribute to a successful business. The book caught my interest because it not only covers the ethical necessities of the business but also the power of morality that is ignored by many. Most of the business books on the shelves reveal the ethics but “Moral Advantage” also takes in to focus those moral values which embarks the reader on a journey of a different view point.

I feel that after reading this book one can have a profound insight into the business world because the analysis of the book is straight from the horse’s mouth i.e. the executives who are already in the business world running successful businesses. Thus, a person in the field of business can only triumph over others by firmly holding on their morals which the writer calls a ‘Moral Advantage’. Some of the leader’s secrets resided in the morality and spiritual view; for others it was the recognition of the needs; however, there is another category that believes in being innovative while catering to the need of consumers.

Nevertheless, what I concluded from reading the book was that morality and ethics cannot be separated from the business, the consumer whether potential or existent both are important. Thus, businessman’s values and morals are reflected into his business dealings which have an impact on the business as a whole. The book review that I read was on “Values Drive-Business” written by Bencohen and Malwarwick. The book is about self-assessment and values that are reflected in the business and running of business operations.

However, the book has no controversial background as it neatly lays down the rules and lessons that may be beneficial for businessmen.
