A Laboratory Scientist in the Organization Task 1 Considering a laboratory scientist in any institution such as colleges, hospitals, organizations and schools, we find the following useful responsibilities they offer. Ensuring that all the safety precaution is considered to avoid any form of accident. By carrying out regular inspection of the experimental materials, both chemicals and apparatus, they ensure the safety of the whole organization. They are the people who are entitled to carrying out any relevant tests e.g. in hospitals and provide results which determine the start of any medication to the patients. In a more general term, laboratory scientists in any institution are the head of any experiment and chemical keeping without which it should impact any danger to other members of the organization. Task 2 a). According to Blanchard and Thacker (2007, p. 25), an employment contract refers to the signing of a paper work between two parties (employer and employee) to set the commencement of a given work within the specified rules and regulations that seem acceptable and legal by the law and which do not infringe on anyone’s rights. The contract normally has a limit of time. The employers should be responsible with their health and safety. They should identify hazards in a systematic manner and eliminating or isolating those that are possible. For instance, employers may recognize the necessary steps to minimize the hazards, by providing information, as well as warnings. Also, by identifying whether there are any regulations covering their industry and complying with them. Providing protective equipment clothing or ensuring employee provided protective is suitable and ensuring that they are used effectively. They should also be trained in order to impart in them the necessary skills to manage their own safety. Employers should recognize any accident that might have occurred while been out keen so as to avoid the same in the future. Being keen to any signs of a disease and reporting to the clinic immediately in case of any signs. Responding to inspector’s advice and ensuring that work practices together with working hours are followed in a manner that enhances a safe-working condition. Environmental laws currently carried out in England covers the following key areas: waste management, water pollution, air pollution, noise, hazardous substances, contaminated land and the IPC/IPPC regimes. b). ISO is the International organization for standardization, a worldwide organization with representatives from 157 countries. ISO standards are formed by this body. The ISO 9000 family addresses quality management that fulfills: the customer's quality requirements, applicable regulatory requirements so as to enhance satisfaction of the customer and achieving frequent improvement of its performance in search of these objectives. The ISO 14000 family addresses environmental management; minimizing destructive properties on the environment imposed by its activities and obtaining continual enhancement of its environmental performance. Task 3 a). These are some of the ways that scientists may communicate with each other: Writing scientific papers is quite effective as later authors use your work, comment on it and refer to it relatively easily. If someone’s paper is downloaded, there is a list of other people’s work at the end. This means that scientists can learn from each other evolving whole subject with input from lots of sources. Another way is by presenting their work at conferences, both large and small, which happen all the time. It will be of surprise how sociable science is, with the most successful researchers, usually branching out and operating with others, in order to develop their skills and to make new stimulating measurements. Majority of these collaborations are produced in conferences and people regularly head towards international presentations in order to advance the reach of their work. b). Importance of communication between scientists is highly essential because: effective communication in the workplace is necessary for an effective work environment just as it is with scientists. Productivity and research work decreases and the rate of innovation falls with no proper communication. Communication is necessary in scientific work setting where people need to work as groups. In the present world, with an unusually high level of division of labor, achievement of nearly any useful duty requires ideas from many people. Task 4 a). United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), is the sole national accreditation organization known by the government to: evaluate against internationally approved standards, organizations that grant certification, inspection, testing and calibration. Approval by UKAS shows the proficiency, neutrality and performance potential of these evaluators. b). Monitor is a machine, people, organization or corporate body with duties of assisting in carrying out the necessary inspections to ensure that the set standards are not violated by the users. Monitor work hand in hand with the accreditation bodies to ensure that standards are followed. Task 5 a). Training of science personnel in my organization is carried out by the following: allowing them to attend the various conferences for science people, this allows them to interact with others and exchange new ideas. Organizing inter-organizational presentation among them; thus, allowing for innovative ideas to be learned by others. Invitation of external tutors who are specialized for organized talks with the scientists who learn by interaction method through tackling of critical areas and answering arising questions. b). Training brings motivation, as a form of retention and keeping the quality staff as much as possible for better output. It helps to acquaint the scientists with new skills that will help to improve their efficiency of work and reduce the organization’s expenditures in maximizing the profits. Task 6 a). Importance of accrediting science organizations by (UKAS) is to have the best organizations with qualified scientists able to deliver without any doubts the best research, innovations and tests for development enhancing. b). Working with monitor for a scientific organization will have a lot of advantages: ensure efficient flow of processes and avoid any spoilage, produce the best products from their firm that meet the demands by the accreditation bodies and to ensure faster correction of their systems in case of any deformation or failures, this makes their process a continuous one with maximum efficiency. c). Monitor is a child to UKAS, their work are almost related. Defining the function of each, I will consider UKAS as the national body while monitor the regional body. It is the UKAS that sets the general rules which are finally extended to a monitor and supervised at small organizations. In conclusion, the two bodies have the same regulations and standards.
