Six Sigma as a Management Strategy - Essay Example

There is a need to integrate the Six Sigma strategy within a business, to support its missions and goals. By doing so, it ensures that the business will continuously work towards achieving a stable production process, which gives some predictable results (Adams, Gupta & Wilson, 2003). Furthermore, the integration of the strategy requires that there is active participation and commitment of all the members of the organization towards achieving perfection. It helps to seek the commitment of the organization’s top management towards achieving quality products.

Integrating the Six Sigma strategy also serves to ensure that a business organization’s leadership makes decisions based on verifiable information, other than assumptions (Keller, 2001).In the Six Sigma process, project management skills are important. The necessity for such skills is to ensure that those individuals involved in the project are in a position to set the vision and the target of the Six Sigma strategy. Project management skills also ensure that those individuals take a leadership role and assists the other stakeholders inconsistently applying this strategy in their functional departments so that the whole organization can move together towards achieving the set targets (Tennant, 2001).

Project plans under the Six Sigma strategy provide details about how the project will be accomplished. Such details include Process time reduction, controlling spending, forecasting with accuracy, risks avoidance, eliminating errors in design and lowering employee absenteeism. The importance of such planning details is to ensure there is consistency in the whole process to achieve the best products and eliminate all chances that may bring failures or defects (Keller, 2001).Project proposalIn my project, I will study which subjects are performed better at the University, between the science and the humanity categories.

Through my research, I want to find out the answers to the following questions; What is the nature of student performance in either of the subject categories? What factors influences the choice of subjects made by the students? Does attitude play any role in determining student’s performance in either of the project category? What can be done to improve performance in either of the subject categories? How can the better performance in either be maintained?To find out information about students performance in these subjects, I will interview students undertaking either of the subject categories.

I will select students at random, from different years of study and request to interview them on their subject attitude and performance. I will also select two lecturers, in the capacity of head of departments for these subject categories and interview them on the student performance in their respective subjects and the factors influencing such performances. I will also request for student performance report for different years of study, which I will use to compare the performances.In this project, I will be working with other two students with whom we shall conduct interviews, collect, and analyze the data obtained.

After data analysis, I will compile a report based on the findings, recommend appropriately, and present it to the heads of departments of the respective subjects. This will help create a deeper insight to them, regarding student’s performance in these subjects. I will attach a recommendation section in the report, which will help create an understanding of what needs to be done to improve or maintain such performances. My proposal should be accepted since it creates an insight regarding student’s performance in these subjects, and recommend the necessary measures to improve or maintain the performance.
