OPERATION MANAGEMENT Operations management is defined as an area of overall business which is mainly concerned with the production of goods and services, and it also consists of different responsibilities in order to ensure that the business operations are run effectively and efficiently. It is termed as management of various resources and the distribution of all the produced goods and services to their customers. “On the other hand it also refers to the production of all the services and goods, the set of different value-added and important activities that usually transform the inputs into various outputs. These above mentioned value-added, important activities should always be aligned with the market opportunities in order to have an optimal performance”. (Jacobs, 2001) Operations management also focuses carefully on how to manage the different processes in order to distribute and produce different services and products. Generally, small businesses or enterprises don't usually talk about this term which is known as operations management, but on the other hand, they do carry out different activities that management schools associate with. There are many small businesses that generally follow some basic rules in order to make their business stable so that they can work well. They also know that there are many other companies who work well by following operation management rules and regulations. But no doubt they do use some basic principles in order to compete with all the other companies. All the different activities usually include development, production creation, distribution and production. Other related activities include inventory control, managing all the purchases, storage, quality control, evaluations and logistics. One of a great deal of focus is mainly on effectiveness and efficiency of all these above mentioned processes. Therefore, operations management also includes an analysis and substantial measurement of internal process. HOW RESTRUCTURING CAN BENEFIT THE BUSINESS? Restructuring is termed as an important process with the help of which any company can regain its profits and can work better. Restructuring can be classified into various steps. It can be done in any phase or in any process. All the departments of the company require restructuring because it is necessary in order to gain maximum potential. “With the help of restructuring, operation management can also work well because it is only with the help of it that a company can gain maximum shares”. (Jacobs, 2001) SSP are the leader in providing advice which helps a lot in designing the whole procedure and activities in order to help their customers and the company to deal successfully with debt and finance related problems. It is also important not to stick your head in the sand because there are always other methods that can be adopted in order to assist the customers for the best outcomes. The clients of SSP can also take benefit from all the operational support and consultancy in different periods, for any kind of stressful business. Restructuring is important because running the same business according to the same rules and regulations will not always produce the best results. Therefore, restructuring is important as it helps a lot in producing the best outcomes which can benefit the company in many ways. CATERING Catering is a process or a business of providing food services wherever and whenever. It can be a party or any other occasion. SSP is also a catering service which is always trying to provide a better service to its customers. They can only provide the better service by following all the principles effectively. “By following all the main points of operation management properly, one can work better and produce an efficient amount of production level”. (Jacobs, 2001) SSP (THE FOOD TRAVEL EXPERTS) In SSP, the main aim is to provide excellent material to its customers. One of the main reasons why a company wants to produce excellent materials for its customers is because it wants the best operational management style. With a huge network spanning over 32 countries, it is very tough for SSP to prove itself in the field of operations management. SSP strongly believes that to make oneself powerful, a combination of teamwork and co-operation is needed in order to work well and generate success for its clients, teams and partners. After the phase of production the important process which is left is to distribute the produced product properly. SSP’s operation management is very strong as it firmly believes that production is important but after production the important thing is to deliver. Delivery is only possible when the operation management of the company is working well. “The main target which SSP is always trying to achieve is to see whether their products are producing well, as well as being distributed or not”. (Riis, 2004) It is also one of the important areas of SSP to provide the best expertise and environment to its entire staff. Along with this, the SSP has also developed a strong partnership with different hotel schools and with different leading restaurants in the world. Rosen College is one such example. It has the world’s largest and fastest growing hospitality program, along with 2,200 undergraduate staff, and 43 full time faculty members and also four various degree programs. There are more than 300 SSP managers worldwide who are willing to complete the college’s industry well known Management Programme by 2010. As it is a part of their commitment to invest in the business, with the help of this, their business will improve and it will also help in increasing the consistency of their operation management programme. It also enables them to attract and also to retain the best talent to SSP which would result in better management. SSP basically achieves the best operation management ideas and techniques by carefully and systematically selecting the right mix of international and local bespoke brands and products, prompting better customer intrigue, satisfaction and recognition. With the help of all these activities they deliver fulfilling, rewarding food experiences in each of their destinations all over the world. (Toolan, 1988) Their research also enables them to closely match the mix of all the different food categories which they offer at different locations. Their teams of best professionals also aims to deliver the best service to their customers and are willing to deliver the highest operational standards and qualities. SSP is always trying to provide better facilities to their customers. The main reason why they can provide and are providing is because of their ideal operation management system. No doubt they do face some problems too when working and dealing, but they easily cope with each other in order to make their company the best one and to prove that SSP has an advanced operation management system. SSP is now at a very challenging phase in their operation based programs. They have to work very hard in order to generate better results. One of the most important targets is to work effectively. The operation management system should always work effectively and efficiently because the success of the company depends on the operation management system. They have to provide effective and efficient solutions in their business expansion plans so that they can generate a vast range of products. PROPER MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE PRINCIPLES The structure of the management system basically depends on many different variables like covered geographical area, different number of physical locations in order to manage properly and many more. On the other hand the management structure is also defined as a geographical and a service point structure. There are different kinds of principles which should be applied in order to understand the management structure more clearly and more properly. (Riis, 2004) 1. The principle of explicit and clear accountability. This is an important step because it is only with the help of better accountability that a company can work better and generate better results. If any company from the very first day understands the principles of the company clearly, what the rules and regulations are, then no one can harm it and it can produce better results. 2. The basic principle of actively managing the organization as a whole through various set of combination of staff and also of line managers. Working properly and efficiently in order to generate better result is the utmost duty of every company. Any company can work better if its workers are working with co-operation and working well. Otherwise the company will for sure face loss. (Vidler, 2001, pp. 121-130) 3. The principle of an adequate management system. In order to have an adequate management system, co-operation is necessary and no doubt it plays an important role in reaching a better level of production. (Robert, 2001) 4. The basic principle of subsidiaries. The production level should be regularly measured in order to keep a check that what is going on in the company, how much the company is producing, how much it is not producing, whether the company is producing properly or not, efficiently or not. All of these above mentioned areas should be properly checked in order to have a better level of production. (Sean, 2002, pp. 30-50) 5. The important principle which is termed as a follow form principle. Follow form principle is regarded as one of the most important principle because it is only with the help of it that a company gains a maximum amount of shares. This principle allows the workers to work in a friendly environment so that they can work properly and collaborate with each other in order to have better, advanced results. (Smith, 2000) 6. The principle of professional who are involved in managing the different departments. All those professionals who are involved in managing the production level, in managing the production unit are responsible to work well with zeal, without any problem in order to generate a huge amount of production level. These professionals who are also known as managers have a great responsibility and they have to work very hard in order to make their company successful. They should cooperate with each other and should listen to each other’s views and ideas. When different people are working together they do have some differences and similarities too. They share their values and thoughts so as to incorporate what others are saying and thinking. If yes then follow their instructions otherwise correct them while working in a team with the main job of accomplishing the company’s goals. (Trick, 2003, pp. 20-25) 7. The principle of competing with all the competitors. Another important point is competing. When you are working in any company and your company is a well known around the globe, then there will be some competitors who will create various difficulties. It is now your duty to manage things, how you compete with them. You should compete with them properly and efficiently. One can very easily compete by following important rules like proper operations management; you should follow all the points which are important in order to have a better operation management system. (Gilbert, 2003) CONCLUSION Proper management structures is very important concept because it is only with the help of it that a company can gain success and can work effectively and efficiently without facing any kind of problems. Operation management is also included in this process because it plays a vital role and has a lot of significance. Operation management is an important process which comprises of various steps and procedures which should be followed properly in order to have en efficient business. SSP has an efficient and effective operation management system and along with this, it also comprises of an efficient management structure which allows SSP to make progress day by day.
