Industrial And Organizational Psychology Table of Contents INTRODUCTION 1 SECTION I: Personal Analysis 2 2.1 Gap Analysis 2 2.2 Career Action Plan 3 SECTION II: Reflection of team working skills development 4 SECTION III: Conclusion 4 SECTION IV: Reference List 6 INTRODUCTION In this study I would be conducting a personal analysis, where I would be analyzing my skills, evaluating the action plan for my career in order to conduct a gap analysis. This will assist me to identify the effectiveness of my team working skills and also be a reflection study for me, so that I can identify my strong and weak areas. There is a pool of opportunities in this segment because job vacancies are available and there are scopes of recruitment in sales future (Rossi, Lipsey and Freeman, 2003). So it can be said that in this field the risk of job shortage is less, but competition level is high and in order to receive a handsome salary skills need to be enhanced in customer dealing and convincing for which the soft skilled need to be brushed. I have been working in a phone shop since past 2 years as customer consultant (sales) in Carphone warehouse. This signifies that I am competent in dealing with customers, have a decent presentation skill and excellent communication skill (Rao, 2009). SECTION I: Personal Analysis In this section of the study I would be discussing my personal skill that would be the stepping stone towards a gap analysis. As far as the basic skills are concern, I have already mentioned that my verbal communications are excellent, so this assist me to fluently interact with my customers and deal with their queries. I am also equipped with a decent presentation skill, which also help me to demonstrate all the features of the phones to my customers’ pretty well (Randhawa, 2007). Since I am a sales consultant my core function is dealing with customers, my colleagues, suppliers and various other people, so I think I am pretty good at handling people. I have been in Carphone warehouse for 2 years and my boss confidently allow me to handle significant clients because he knows that I have skills to turn the prospects into customers and also have a pleasant relationship with existing client, which is why they ask for me whenever they come for repeat purchase (Raj, 2007). 2.1 Gap Analysis In this section I would be conducting a gap analysis so as to judge where I stand. The ideal skill sets of a sales consultant would be my guiding star and I would be examining my skills against those, which will give me an idea of my draw backs. Sales executives should have proper knowledge regarding the changes in the field he/ she is working in. They should have the knowledge to assess the statistics related to sales so that they can predict future sales. They should have the ability to understand the strategies of the competitors, so as to employ better strategies to achieve success (Kaila, 2006; Talwar, 2006). If I consider my skill and compare them with this, I can say that I do understand statistics and can assess the future sales to be. I have immense interest in gadgets, so I explore phones thoroughly when they come to the store. This assists me to explain my customers in a better way as I can interpret where they might face problems. I found is that I need to enhance my presentation skills and also work upon my ability to assess the strategies of the customers in a better way so that I can have an edge over my competitors (Dransfield, 2000). 2.2 Career Action Plan The career action plan would be focusing on two major areas namely, personal development and career related developments. Personal Development Knowledge: I have to learn to inculcate the habit of becoming more patient in dealing with aged people, who fail to understand various things at one go. Skill: I already posses the skill to interact with people quite well, which signify my communication skill is good. I can also explain and demonstrate various things easily to people and I am a good listener as well. However, I would want to enhance my skill to analyse and interpret things faster, so that it assists me in my career development (Bolen and Kleiner, 1996). Career Related Development Knowledge: I think I would have to enhance my knowledge in forecasting sales and revenue figures which will assist me in my career. Skill: I would want to enhance my skills in analysis, pitching products to different client in better way and grab their attention. I attend the seminars and lectures to learn these soft skills. I would also want to learn to be on time, though it is a habit and not skill, but being on time is indeed a skill, which I consider. Experience: I have 2 years of work experience in sales consultation. However, further experience in this field is necessary for development (Aswathappa, 2007). SECTION II: Reflection of team working skills development From the above personal analysis it is clear that I have the basic as well as intermediate knowledge and skill for becoming an effective sales consultant. However, only the best people are wanted in the top companies, so I have to enhance the required personal and career related skills for becoming the best, so that I can dream of getting into a mobile company directly, where I would be working in the company payroll and leading a national or global team. I would focus to work upon my team management skill, knowledge in interpreting, analyzing and forecasting, so that I can become a sales executive and then a manager. Team working skills would be significant because without it development in career is not possible (Akin, 2011). SECTION III: Conclusion I would have to follow my career plans and enhance my skill to gain more knowledge, so that the personal development would lead to gradual development in my career. I have experience for 2 years in dealing with basic sales function, but handling a team of skilled sales consultant and developing sales strategies would be possible only if I gain more knowledge. However, being late for work for few days in not a crime, but eliminating this habit will assist to inculcate a good habit of being on time everywhere. SECTION IV: Reference List Akin, M.
