Understand Different Approaches To Management And Leadership Introduction Of Coca-Cola and Cathay Pacific All organizations comprise of diverse types of management approaches and leadership styles. In this paper the case of Coca-Cola and Cathay Pacific are taken into consideration. Coca-Cola Corporation is one of the famous players operating successfully in the industry of beverages, since 1944. The organization is situated in United States and mainly concentrates in carbonated drinks. Coca-Cola presents more than 500 brands in almost 200 countries as per the requirements of the customers resulting in enhancement of its brand image and reputation to a significant extent.

It also helped in enhancement of the profit margin and revenues of the organization in this industry among other rivals. Similarly, Cathay Pacific is another famous organization in aviation sector presenting world-class facilities to its customers to retain its value in the market. Therefore, it might be stated that in spite of different management approaches and leadership styles, they are successful in their own sectors among others. Compare the Effectiveness of Different Leadership Styles of Coca-Cola Corporation and Cathay Pacific?

According to Jackson and Bosse-Smith, leadership style refers to the procedure followed by the managers or directors of an organization to manage its subordinates effectively. Along with this, it also helps in proper direction, implementation and evolution of the plans and policies within the organization. There are mainly three types of leadership styles such as authoritarian, democratic and laissez faire. Autocratic style of leadership is a type, where the manager or leader only dictates the decisions or strategies to its subordinates.

Here, the ideas and opinions of the subordinates are not at all considered. Such leadership styles are not encouraged in Coca-Cola as it mainly desires to attain the top-most position with the support of its team-members. However, autocratic leadership style mainly leads to lower results and reputation. So, it is not followed in Coca-Cola. Similarly, Cathay Pacific also tries to attain highest revenues and profit margins in the segment of aviation as compared to other players. This may not be possible with such type of authoritarian leadership styles.

The leadership style followed in Coca-Cola Corporation is democratic. In this style, the leader or manager offers the ability of presenting the ideas and values of its subordinates at the time of decision making process. In this style of leadership, discussions, debates and sharing of ideas takes place so as to clear off varied types of dilemmas of the subordinates1. Moreover, the management of the organization uses such type of leadership style attain new and fresh ideas for the betterment of the organization.

Then, all these ideas are assessed properly so as to attain the most effective idea that might enhance the brand image and reputation of Coca-Cola in beverage industry among other rivals. Cathay Pacific do not follow democratic leadership styles as the managers of the organization always tries to share the ideas and plans freely among its employees for better decision making and planning and controlling of the operations. Laissez faire leadership style is also another type of leadership style followed.

In this type, the leader delegates the task to its followers and offers full freedom o take decisions over it. Such type of leadership style is followed in Cathay pacific as the employees are extremely skilled and knowledgeable. So, they are just free to take any type of decisions at the time of performing the tasks. However such leadership styles are not followed in case of Coca-Cola. Explain How Organisational Theory Underpins The Practice Of Management? The proper functioning and controlling of the management practices of an enterprise is entirely dependent over the theories of the organization.

The behavioural theories helps the management of the organizations such as Coca-Cola or Cathay pacific in proper decision making, strategy implementation and planning so as to improve the brand image and reputation in their respective sectors. These theories also help in understanding the upcoming challenges of the changing situations that might help hinder the effectiveness of the organizations2. Not only this, behavioural theory like contingency theory helps in maintaining and organizing the organizational goals effectively.

In order to do so, it is essential for the management to understand, the demands of the customers, technological changes and many other changes. Keeping this fact in mind, the management of Coca-Cola analysed the requirement to swift towards non-carbonated sector and so introduced Fanta along with Coca-Cola to retain its dominance. Similarly, Cathay Pacific, offered best customers services to satisfy the customers and reduce their swift-over costs. These strategies helped these organizations to retain their portfolio in their sectors.

Evaluate The Different Approaches To Management Used By Different Organisations? There are mainly three types of approaches (such as classical, system and contingency) that help in improvement of the organizational reputation and brand value in the market. With the use of these approaches, the organizations might enhance its profit margin and customer bases. Coca-Cola Corporation uses contingency approach that is entirely dependent on the situational changes and demands of the customers. As Coca-Cola Corporation mainly used to focus on carbonated drinks, so its market share started declining day by day.

Then it understood the demand of the customers and the market and introduced non-carbonated drink or Fanta that again enhanced its revenue and market image among other rivals. Similarly, Cathay Pacific used system approach in which, the organization acts as an open system interacting freely with the environment. In order to retain its portfolio in the market, the management introduced training sessions thereby enhancing the performance of the employees and customer satisfaction ratio. Thus, from the above discussion, the effectiveness of the management approaches over organizational functions may be clearly analysed.

Conclusion Conclusively, it may be analysed that different management approaches and leadership styles are extremely essential for proper functioning of an organization operating in any sector.
