?Impact of Line Managers in an Organization An organization can never run without management. The management is in control of all the activities thathappen in the organization and ensures all the activities are executed as planned. Without such, the organization is likely to flop. Therefore, it is in the best interests of the organization’s management to ensure all the activities in the organization are executed at the right time (Mallin, 2007: 12). For example, purchasing of raw materials should be done at the right time. If this is not done, then the organization is not likely to continue with its activities of the day. Apparently, an organization needs line managers that have their duties at different places in the organization. This ensures there is coordination and execution of all activities is done at the right time. Line managers have a direct impact on the performance of an organization. This is due to their management roles that are involved in production in the organization. For example, the line managers have a role to play in getting all the inputs that will be used in an organization. Collecting such inputs has direct effects on the production in the organization. In addition to this, the line managers have to ensure all these inputs are well taken care of while in the organization. If these inputs are misused, the managers will be blamed for such a mishap. Therefore, they should consider taking responsibility on the inputs that are put in the organization. Secondly, managers have to ensure the outputs in an organization are delivered to the stipulated places (Beardwell and Claydon, 2007: 16). The outputs of an organization are steadfast in revenue collection. Therefore, when the outputs are given ultimate care, they are likely to increase the revenue of an organization. For example, when the outputs of the organization are collectively relayed to the stipulated places, the organization is not likely to lose any amount of cash. This will enhance the financial stability of the organization as it will be collecting all the revenue. However, when line managers do not take care of all the outputs in an organization, the organization is likely to record losses. This will be detrimental to the success of an organization as it will struggle to spring back in to making profits. In many instances, profits of an organization reduce drastically due to irresponsible line managers. As such, the organization will suffer losses which are as a result of irresponsible line managers. Organizational culture is one aspect that should be given utter respect in an organization. This states the daily routine of an organization which is passed from one generation of line managers to another. The organizational culture of an organizational is an arrangement that states the values and concepts that are respected in the organization. These values explain a lot in terms of organizational performance (Parker, 2005: 21). Therefore line managers have to ensure they give the best in regard to culture. For example, the line managers have to ensure they pass the organizational culture and values to new employees. For example, john Lewis is a retailer that has been in the market for a long time. The retailer has the cultural value of giving high quality products to the market. This is a cultural expression that should be passed in the next generation. Since its inception in the 1800’s, the retailer has continued to offer high quality products. This states that the organization has been steadfast in sprouting its organizational culture which is offering high quality products and services. Though the line managers and other employees change from time to time, the organization still savors the need to offer high quality products to the market. With such activities, the organization is likely to record a positive performance in the market. Line managers have to ensure there is effective communication in an organization. Communication is as vital aspect in any organization that wants to record a positive performance. First, communication ensures there is relay of materials in the organization. Materials in an organization are only delivered after the information is passed to the responsible parties. However, delaying with such information could lead to a lapse in delivery of the materials. This will be detrimental to an organization as it will not have the needed materials at the right time (Beardwell and Claydon, 2007: 13). As such, the organization will be affected in terms of supplying products and services. Secondly, communication ensures people are doing the right thing at the right time. For example, employees should be working at stipulated times and leave work after the stated time. However, when this is not done, the line managers will have failed in their duties. Thirdly, line managers have a duty to ensure there is apt decision making. Decision making in an organization is not an easy task. Therefore, there has to be a stipulated way of making decisions. This will ensure haphazard decisions are eliminated in an organization. As such, there will be positive accrual in the organization in the long run. For example, line managers have to make decisions on how workers will execute their jobs when an occasion arises. For example, when some workers are in training sessions, the line managers have to make decisions on new arrangement of the available workers. If succinct decisions are not made as such, there will be confusion in the organization as some activities will not be performed. Line managers are apt in delegation of duties. For example, line managers are in control of a number of employees that work just below them. With a number of workers working under them, the line managers know the strengths and weaknesses of these employees since they have been working together for quite some time. As such, the managers know the suitable chores that could be delegated to each worker. This makes their work easier as each of the workers is given a duty that they will give the best outcome (Wall and Rees, 2004: 15). Similarly, line managers are involved in empowering other employees. This is an exercise that should be done with expertise. Line managers have been working with these employees for a long time and know the responsible employees. Therefore, they are likely to empower the best employees to take care of other responsibilities. For example, line managers have the right to choose a group leader for the other employees when they are in an expedition or working without supervision. The chosen employee will be responsible and will have to respond and report to the line manager. This instills discipline in all the employees as they are answerable to the line managers. In today’s world, line managers tend to work in the same manner in different organizations. However, there is a slight difference depending on the organization. For example, line managers in fast food, retailing, banking and manufacturing have the same roles but they slightly differ when it comes to service and product provision. In today’s world, line managers use technology in monitoring the performance of the employees. When using technology, the managers do not have to be physically present. This ensures the work that is done by the employees is top notch (Greene, 2011: 11). In many instance, managers use camera and other devices which monitor the employees. As such, it is easier to monitor all the employees without moving from place to place. Secondly, line managers have resorted to using appraisals and evaluating employees. Employees have to be appraised in the organization after a certain period. Employees that record an improvement are given better packages as they are making an improvement. Lastly, line managers are employing creative ways of management, which includes working in teams to execute a single task. This makes work easier as it is executed in the least time possible. In conclusion, line managers are vital in an organization. They have a number of duties which are vital in establishing better performance in an organization. This includes delegating duties, continuity in organizational culture, making decisions and enhancing communication. Without such, the organization is not likely to perform as expected.
