As connoted, the disease Melioidosis is caused by a protein found in the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei. The protein is dubbed BPSL1549. This protein makes the bacterial to be very lethal. The disease Melioidosis is manifest in two modes of pathogenesis. The acute phase that is characterized but high mortality rates and the latent phase (Buetow, et al., 2001). In the latent phase, there is self-secretion of the bacteria in the infected host and only affects the infected host in form of a disease when the individual immune system is compromised such as during other infections, during organ transplant and during old age. Latent phase has been found to have a long life span that can go up to fifty years (Wongtrakoongate, et al., 2007).
There is no detailed documentation describing the pathogenesis of the bacteria. Despite this, the genome of then bacteria has been sequenced and as a result, large and small chromosomes have been identified. By sequence similarity, its genes have been found to be similar to various other organisms. The similarity has shown that the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei is closely related to the bacteria B., pseudomallei, which is not pathogenic. Therefore, in depth analysis of the genes has to be done to facilitate a comparative analysis of the genes of these two bacteria to found out the function of the genes. One of the gene that is analysed in this experiment is BPSL1549 (Cruz, et al., 2011).
This experiment’s major objective is to determine the protein structure of the gene BPSL1549 using the protein crystallography method of Seleno – methionine multi - wavelength anomalous dispersion. The results will be compared against a database containing known structure of genes ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Self determination theory

...individual who pays close attention to detail. The cognitive approach to defining personality sheds light on this analysis in a different manner. To aid our understanding of this perspective it is imperative that we keep in mind that the focus of the cognitive theory is on a person’s thoughts and how these determine their emotions and behavior and hence personality. So in order to accurately pinpoint who Chan is it is important to keep in mind his thought process, which precedes all his feelings and actions; Kelly’s theory(1969), the ‘Fundamental Postulate’, aims to do just that by stating that individuals tend to act depending on their interpretations of prior events. He has the tendency to stay positive even when he is...

Determination of Exchange Rate

...? Determination of Exchange Rate History of Exchange Rates As d by Bagella et al (2006, p.1151), the choice of policiesof exchange rates was not so vexing sometimes back. In modern period, the selection of an exchange rate policy that suits a country is vital since though the selection of the policy is convenience based given application of international rules and regulations. Exchange rates policy dates back many years. As noted by Lau (n.d., p. 2), in 1867, the Trans-Atlantic cable was the only electronic link between Europe and North America. In this period, four fuzzy edges characterized the international monetary experience. The initial period was 1870 to 1914 where most countries adopted the gold standard where gold was used... period...

Gene Determination

..., 2000). Basically, the sex of a child is determined at conception. The mother, through the ovum, provides the X chromosome, while the father's sperm, the main determinant of the baby's sex, carries either an X chromosome or a Y chromosome. An XX embryo is a female, while an XY embryo is a male. Before the 6th week (or 8th week according to Committee on Genetics, 2000), the embryo develops undifferentiated gonadal tissues and also have primordial structures that are capable of developing into both male and female genitalia (Committee on Genetics, 2000, Birth Defects, 2005). The process of sexual determination and thus the genital appearance of the baby at birth are...

Market structure and the determination of market price

...Market Structure and the Determination of Market Price Pharmaceuticals Consumption of some product is sometimes inevitable. Such products will remain on demand throughout the seasons. However, due to competition some companies emerge ahead of others in the market. Despite the products, have similarities aspects such as branding comes into play in such market dynamics. Two forms of market structure are available, the imperfect and perfect competition. A perfect market exhibits many sellers that are not limited by regulations. The external factors are minimal hence there is a leeway to partake to sell the products or services. On the other hand, an imperfect market is characterized by...

...analyzing everything that it entails, as well as the remedy of default termination in the context of federal procurement in reference to the nature of the course. In termination for default, the government always wants to have the upper hand on the contract hence always trying to make sure that the contract is always to their advantage. So in that case, in order for the government to prevail in the defense of a termination by default, the government must establish that the termination of the contract by default prior to the contract completion date was effective, proper and correct. Since this default termination is such a drastic action, the federal procurement must show how its determination was well grounded and had...

...RESEARCH PROPOSAL, MACRO & MICRO ECONOMICS; RESEARCH METHODS IN ECONOMICS (INCOME DETERMINATION) Greenawalt and Sinkey in their research tests the income-smoothing hypothesis among 106 large banks for a period of eight years (1976-1984).1 The study intends to find the effect of bank provision for loan losses as a fraction of company’s income. Moreover, the study also intends to find other business conditions that affect bank’s loan portfolio. The author report that there is evidence of income smoothening effect over the study period. Greenawalt and Sinkey effort add important knowledge to the operation of banking services on the noninterest products.2 Though there has no other research on the study of income smoothening...

These are basic building blocks that are in trillions in the body and form the basis of body organs and human structure. Among the cell structure is the existence of chromosomes which forms human body nucleus. In them is the sex chromosomes which are paired into X and Y or Y and Y and are the determinant of the child’s sex depending on their combination after intercourse. The development and...

National Income Determination

...National Income Determination al Affiliation) Media on consumer and investor confidence Consumer confidence refers to the economic indicator that measures how consumers understand and interpret the current economic situation and what they expect. Investor confidence can have different meanings depending on the economic parameter. It may be defined as having confidence investments paying expected income or investments protecting capital value (Godley, 2009). It is therefore important for media to inform the nation on these two aspects since they are economically important. Economic impact of confidence in economic agents Various economists have constantly claimed that lack of confidence is a major reason that facilitates...
