?Personal ment When I was ten, we moved to a new house in Hong Kong and moving in there had a long lasting impact on my life that became the driving force behind the motives of my life. Today in pursuing that goal, I have traveled to a new country in a very different part of the world. This driving force behind my motivation had sprung up from my six years old neighbor that I had next-door in our new house. She was a pretty child but I couldn’t understand at that time why she wasn’t like me and why she couldn’t study at the same school with me. Later my mother told me that she had a disease called dyslexia. That little incident of my childhood had a far reaching impact on my life. After that I knew what I was going to do in life. I wanted to help mentally retarded people and specially the children with dyslexia. In school, I had a clear mind about what I was going to be. So I excelled in my education step by step until I was in high school. There I got practically involved in pursuing my aim. While in High school, I won a social service organizing contest and then I was given a chance to join an exchange trip in Wuhan. In there, we visited governmental welfare organizations. That was a very useful experience as we learnt how a welfare organization runs, focusing on children and mentally handicapped services. Thus for the first time I practically saw how I could help special children. This experience of volunteering in high school to work with mentally handicapped people was very close to my heart and that was what I had always dreamt of doing, but that was also the most difficult thing that I had ever done until that time. It literally made me test my limits because I always wanted to do that and was planning to do that work in future too, but that was the first time when I also saw its challenges. That was the time when I had to practically decide whether to take up that job for good or to just sympathize with the people who were suffering and move on. After a few initial days, I settled down and I knew that was the only thing that I had ever wanted to do. The mentally handicapped people, who seemed difficult to handle in the first few days, became so dear to me that I could not possibly think of a better thing than to keep them happy and to help them live a better life. So I decided to be an occupational therapist. I also did a lot of volunteer work other than that while being in the high school, for instance I worked as an all time project constructor and the biggest project we did was the one in which we helped new immigrants from south Asia or Mainland China to fit in Hong Kong’s environment and to help them fight against discrimination that unfortunately prevails all around Hong Kong. I mainly focused on the students and children by providing tutorial classes of English, Maths and Chinese to them and holding events for them to fit in easily in Hong Kong. But even during that I kept my goal in mind and I focused more on the special children and tried helping their families and tied to help them. So I was honored with awards by The Social welfare Department of Hong Kong for winning the social service contest and for 3 years of volunteer service because I had served more than 100 hours in a year. These awards were nothing to me in comparison with those bright smiling eyes of special children that I had worked with. So I decided to stick with my goal. Keeping that goal in mind, I decided to pursue higher education in the USA. During that volunteer work, I aw many people working with the mentally retarded children. There were the teachers that helped those children to learn new things and I was impressed with their hard work and dedication and the patience with which they efficiently dealt with the children. I saw their attendants who helped those children with everything they ever did day in and day out. But the ones who impressed me the most were the therapists who actually worked to change the lives of those children. They helped them in getting better day by day. So I decided to be just like them and to treat the special children. I chose biology as my major discipline because I wanted to be an occupational therapist in future. My experience of volunteer work helped me to see how the help the mentally retarded children with dyslexia and I was amazed by the variety methods they use as treatment like playing mahjong with patients, and gardening with the people who had mental disorders. So I decided to take up biology as my majors and then to specialize later as a therapist to help special children. I want to join a CES school for many reasons. First of all; being an overseas student and not being a national, I am on a full time study visa and so I’m not allowed to work here. The CES schools’ fees are very affordable for me and I can study there in low budget and get quality education at that time. Thus it is going to be much easier for my family to support me in getting my education here in the United States. Other reasons for my opting for a CES school are morality based. As the level of morality is extraordinary in CES institutes with their honor code etc so I feel that it is going to be more what suits my taste. I was really annoyed in my previous school because the girls brought males in the accommodation at night and I couldn’t concentrate properly on my studies. But CES schools hold very good reputation and I hope that a CES school would help me to focus on my studies in a better way. Also I think that the cause for which I have dedicated my life to is a very sacred one so a CES school can groom me better in the light of Christ’s teachings, enabling me to pursue my goals in a nobler and enlightened way. I have applied in your reputed institution because I think it is the best place that I can ever end up for pursuing my goals. Transferring from my previous school where I had been attaining good scores (3.87 GPA) to your institution was a decision that I made after a lot of thinking and research. After knowing all about this school, I guess this is the place that suits me best because of many reasons. I think this place suits me best academically as I have heard much about this institute’s reputation in biology. So I can pursue my dream here in an efficient way under the guidance of your brilliant faculty members. Also the decent environment of the campus and the code of honor would help me focus on my studies in a peaceful state of mind. My previous academic record is very satisfactory as I have completed my initial three semesters with current and overall 3.87 GPA. I hope that after getting admission in your college, ill be able to do even better. I assure you that ill do the best possible for me after getting admitted in your worthy institute. Apart from trying my best to excel academically, I would also try my best to participate eagerly in extra-curricular activities. I can readily volunteer for any activity involving the extension of any kind of help to immigrants and special children. I can play at piano and I have also been a part of the acapella team of my school, performing both inside and outside the school. So I would like to be a part of the musical society of my new school as well. I have been the class president in the senior 3; also I have been the house secretary in high school. So with these experiences I am very much capable of taking up leading and organizing roles in school organizations and societies. Having an experience with immigrants and helping them settle in my country, I had exposure to people belonging to diverse cultures and backgrounds. This would not only help me to get settled in your institute without much effort but also I would like to help other overseas students too, in settling down there in a new environment. So keeping all the above factors in mind, I think that your institution is the best place that I can get in for attaining my goals. Your school offers all that I require to pursue my dream and I hope that after getting admitted in your institute, I would also be a useful member of the school during my time there and I would try my best to work passionately and effectively there both for making my childhood’s dream come true and for paying your institution back in a useful way.
