Comparisons of The Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome - Essay Example

Parthenon is the center of the Greek civilization’s heritage. It is built from white marble blocks. In contrast, Pantheon in Ancient Rome is built from concrete (the invention of the Rome civilization). The design of both buildings are different in shape: Parthenon is built as a rectangular, while Pantheon is built as a circle. Both buildings have the march colonnades that make them look indeed very unique in their compositions and decorations of facades. The light to the PP was coming only through the open doors, while Pantheon had one of the special structures built in the temple – oculus (it was a special kind of illumination that let the day and night light come into the temple very easily through the march colonnades.

Each of these temples was built as a center of either Greek or Roman civilizations.  The design of the characteristics of the temples was built according to different orders. The construction of Parthenon is the sample of the Doric architecture (PP) that is centered around one syllable. The Doric style is different from the Corinthian type of order that is typical for Pantheon. This temple is built to fancy three syllables. Both Doric and Corinthian styles are decorative and plain, so they reflect the typical features of the architectural compositions of the Greek and the Roman periods.

  The Roman architecture came after the Greek, so it comes to be a more relevant and advanced one as it is traced in the design of the buildings that were originated after the period of the Greek civilization. Being a sample of the Doric architecture (PP) and its center in the march structures, Parthenon included the fluted shapes in arches, while in Pantheon, the structures were more complex and centered around the circle. This temple was devoted to “all of the gods” that proved the significance of the building and its components.

In contrast, Parthenon was devoted to the sacrificial offering to the Athena, the goddess of the wisdom, the virgin, that was praised in ancient Greece. However, the uniqueness of both of the temples signifies the period in which each of them was built. They were built at different times on the rise of both Greek and Roman civilizations. However, their purposes were almost similar, and the religious advantage of both temples was reflected in their structures and design (PP). Both Parthenon and Pantheon were built to glorify the almighty forces of gods and to please them with the structures that were uniting for the community in the march for justice in the center of the Greek and the Roman civilization.

            As for the comparisons of the Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome essay, it should be noted that both temples were highlighted with the variances in the architectural march colonnades balance. Each center of the temple was signified with the special style of the design representations. The features of Pantheon were Corinthian, while the features of PP were rather Doric, built in the versatile dimensions. Both temples (especially Pantheon) were built to reflect the intrinsic and extrinsic beliefs of the people in ancient Greece and Rome. These were the national relics, the pure artifacts that signified the intentions of people to build something sacral and even sacrificial. By the way, both temples served for the religious purposes to commemorate the freedom for the artistic expressions that were typical for many generations of those who praised their beliefs and respected their rights and values for justice and good care about the quality of the art in general and in specific forms in the unity with nature.
