Affection Of Different Identity Categories People gain identity from the society by classification into various categories. Classification is mainly social structure, and it involves the interaction of people in the social setting (Worell 12). The categories have advantages and disadvantages that affect both male and female differently. This essay describes how gender has made an impact in the community set up.Gender describes the roles and responsibilities that males and female should perform in the society.
Gender is characterized by the culture of a community. The development of gender relies on the sex of an individual, and it exaggerates the difference between being either a girl or boy. It is influenced by societal beliefs and cultural practices. People are grouped to be either masculine or feminine in this category. Gender dictates what should be done and by who in the society.Once a child is born, they are socialized to acquire traditions and values that that will make him or her to fit in the society.
They grow holding the traditions of the community that surface later on in their adulthood. This socialization promotes gender disparity in the society. One grows entirely trying to meet the expectations the community has for them. Girl child is socialized to be like her mother (Worell 15). When young she gets associated with various responsibilities that make her learn the difference between her and boys. She starts imitating what her mother does like cooking, playing with dolls, and also cleaning.
She grows knowing that women have the responsibility to prepare, taking care of the kids, aged the sick, cleaning and mainly doing the domestic chores. One becomes an adult knowing that their place is at home and not in the public sphere.Gender determines the courses that we do in schools and also the jobs to do. Gender stereotypes male child. Boys are said to take part in courses such as, engineering, mathematics and also medicine field while girls who viewed to be feminine are supposed to do social sciences.
It further affects the level of employment for women since they cannot freely choose their career. Ladies will have to be in the subordinate jobs and men in the managerial and better jobs. Therefore, gender will determine the capability on of to deliver to the community. In the society men dominate in almost all the sectors giving women fewer chances of participation. Men are said to be the key decision makers (Worell 17). Ladies rarely participate in decision-making. It is influenced by having none or few women in decision-making levels.
Women are therefore oppressed out of the decision made since they are sensitive to male issues. As discussed above, we notice that gender issues have disadvantaged women’s life in various ways. It has done no good but more harm to the girl child by giving them a feminine character. There are no privileges for women in this category. Gender affects the women and girl child in the same way. The limitation of girl’s choice to education limits her chances of job opportunities in future. The triple roles for women limit their participation in the public sphere.
The male stereotype in politics as a result of gender structures has led to poor management that cannot keenly look into the issues of women.Work citedJudith Worell, Encyclopedia of women and gender: sex similarities and differences and the impact of society on gender, Volume 1, Elsevier, 2001, ISBN 0-12-227246-3, ISBN [page needed]
