The two readings focus on the fact that humans cannot be detached from the social factors that revolve around them. These relations will determine who humans are and how they survive in society, for instance, in the labour system, whether they will be of the affluent or the slave class.

I agree with the arguments of Karl Marx. Society determines who an individual is and will be. For instance, in a capitalist society, individuals struggle to fit into the competitive structure and take a position in the system. Successful ones will occupy the top hierarchy, while the poor will remain labour providers to the bourgeoisie and wealthy.
