However, anthropologists are not and cannot afford to be complacent with age old research into past cultures, traditions and societies. This stems from the fact that this action would be detrimental to anthropology mutually as a science and an art. It is only in the event that past societies are learnt and understood will mankind be able to comprehend, fully, the gravity of the transformation that has taken place. In this context, it is imperative for anthropologists to study the people, tribes and cultures that have repudiated to adapt to change, in favor of the traditional ways of life.
This necessitates one to travel thousands of miles to potentially unsafe regions in order to source this vital information. One such people are the Jhanai. The Jhania best exemplify the life of traditional hunters and gatherers in this postmodern era. This paper seeks to analyze the Eniomaggot video within the context of stereotypes of gender, race, and/or class This video expounds on the lifestyle of the Jhanai people. However, the video principally focuses on the male community. Seldom does the video feature the female community.
The logic behind this conscious omission is still perplexing. As a result of this gender bias, the viewer gets an in-depth comprehension of the responsibilities and the expectations of daily life of the typical male Jhanai. The relative age of the men depicted in this documentary is forty five. This is rather outlandish as it is often the custom, in this modern age, to expect men of such age to refrain from such strenuous tasks. This, however, is not the norm in the Jhanai people. Men of this age are the prime gatherers of the community.
This stems from the premise that their years have given enviable hunting and gathering expertise (eniomaggot). In spite of this relative old age, these men still clad akin to their young counterparts. They seemingly only spot shorts and remain naked from the waist upwards. The Jhania people are better off in relation to other traditional people. This can be noted from their apparent modern clothing. More traditional people still clad leaves or at times no form of dressing at all. The limited scenes where the female population is featured reveals this verity.
This, however, is the only clear indication of their civilization. The video does not present any clear gender roles. Since the video depicts hunters, primarily, it should have depicted other male roles so as to create a distinguishing factor on the regard placed on different activities. In the same respect, the video does not show any alternate sexuality. There is no apparent indication of mental illness existing within the people. This may be sourced from the relative absence of this illness within the people or an omission on the part of the filming.
Thus, it is safe to assume that these people are free from mental illness. Judging from the warm reception the film crew received from the Jhanai people, it can be assumed that they are none-race sensitive people. This is one aspect of this community that should be borrowed by the postmodern era. Racism has become a global problem in recent times. Brazen acts of racism are becoming, increasingly, frequent. Despite the measures that have been instituted, in an endeavor to curb this vice, it is still yet to be abolished.
This video shows the relative harmony that
