This video is about Corrine, a young girl who has epilepsy. She begins to develop a bond with a service dog named Rory, who is trained to detect seizures (Berg & Zipper, 2018). This brings hope to Corrine's family who was in a great deal of distress due to her condition (Berg & Zipper, 2018)s. I chose this video first because it is relevant to my classwork. It explains through real human experiences the life and challenges of children suffering from developmental disabilities. It also covers important issues in child development, development disabilities, and service animals. This video will thus help to learn about developmental disabilities in children from a human perspective.
The content of the video is related to the content we learned in class in several ways. First, the video is mainly about epilepsy which is a developmental disability that can develop in children. Corrine who has epilepsy and her experiences and challenges enables a viewer to understand the developmental disability and the effects it has on children as well as parents and siblings (Berg & Zipper, 2018). The video also portrays the process of children developing attachments. This is represented through Corrine who forms a bond with her service dog, Rory. The video also covers the issue of service animals which is discussed briefly in the class notes.
The video has, in many aspects, advanced my knowledge on child development. The portrayal of the child development process through real human experiences triggered empathy in me which made it easier to understand and relate to the issues that were being conveyed. The video has advanced my knowledge of development because I got to see the aspects of development from a real-life perspective. I also improved my understanding of developmental disabilities. From the experience of Corrine and her family, I learned a lot about developments disabilities and the challenges they pose in real life. Lastly, I learned more about service dogs and their importance to people suffering from developmental disabilities.
I chose this video because it is relevant to the topic of this question and my classwork. The central theme in the video is sex, gender, and sexuality which is a significant part of my classwork. The topic of sex, gender, and sexuality covers a considerable portion of my classwork which made it a suitable topic for me to advance my knowledge on—watching this video will expand my understanding of the issue and increase interest in the classwork. The video is also well researched and presented featuring competent professionals and relevant research that is not misleading or in support of stereotypes. This provided me with an excellent resource to expand my knowledge on the topic of gender and sexuality.
The content of the video and what I learned in class are substantially connected. The primary connection between the video and my classwork is the focus on issues of gender, sex and sexuality. In class, we learned about development and gender, sex and sexuality and the video talks about sex and attraction. Both the video and my classwork discuss the issues of sex and gender, sexual orientation, sexual development, behaviours, and practices. The video also seeks to dismiss stereotypical beliefs on sex, gender, and sexuality something the classwork also tries to do. In the video, they talk of the complex nature of gender, sex and sexuality which is also discussed in the class notes.
The video advanced my knowledge about sexual attraction and the choice of a sexual partner. The video has improved my understanding of the feeling of attraction that is the emotions and hormones involved in the process. I also learned that the choice of a sexual partner is not primarily determined by genetic factors or the desire to produce offspring as it is commonly thought (Janelle & Diamond, 2020). Many factors contribute to a person developing the features and qualities that they consider attractive in a partner. The video categorized the factors determining the choice of a partner which are genetic factors and environmental factors with the latter playing a more critical role (Janelle & Diamond, 2020). Environmental consideration was a term used to describe all non-genetic elements. The main pillars of attraction are physical appearance, geography, reciprocity, and similarity (Janelle & Diamond, 2020). I also learned about the effects of culture on a person’s view of attractiveness.

People must know how behaviors and thoughts work. The following are some reasons why it is essential to understand how thoughts and behaviors work. The first reason is that knowledge of how our thoughts and behaviors work is vital in controlling them. Controlling one's thoughts and behaviors is important in achieving objectives and success in life. By knowing how our minds work, we can intentionally influence thought and feeling patterns, clearly evaluate reality, and improve decision making which enhances our ability to attain set objectives. We also become more pre-emptive, increase acceptance and more accepting of the positive development of self when we know about how thoughts and behaviors work. Knowing about the workings of thoughts and behaviors is also important in our social lives. It helps in the understanding of other people's thought processes, creating and maintaining social relationships, predicting other people's behavior, solving conflict among others. Social interactions are at times complicated and knowing how thoughts and behavior work can help us make inferences on the thoughts and intentions of other people which makes social interactions easier to handle. Inferences about other people's perspectives and opinions help in seeing their perspective of things and treat them kindly while practicing self-control. When we become better in social interactions, we can handle communications in the workplace more efficiently, therefore, improving self-confidence and job satisfaction.
