The Movie Snatch Thesis ment: Snatch film primarily presents the general overview and acknowledgment of culturalmasculinity aspect of marginalization in the traditional societies, in the United Kingdom. This movie’s creativity presents the embodiment of marginalization in the modern contemporary world where different cultures interact on a daily basis to earn a living. Additionally, the film is a reflection of a comparison between traditional and modern cultural hegemony. Traditional cultural hegemonic masculinity was basically rural. The marginalized group’s cultural practices during this period, on the other hand, were dominated by sexual purity, church and celibate lifestyles. This attribute is indifferently portrayed in the film by modernity aspect where marginalization is modern-based with metropolitan business masculinity influenced socially and economically by global culture. In order to survive in London, the character resorted into crime to make a living. This society marginalized them so that they could not get decent jobs. However, they are smart enough to realize the weaknesses of the rich members in London; they use tricks and somewhat creativity to get what they want. Mostly, they steal items such as diamond and money. Frankie, for instance, steals diamond. They use notable gang members in London by liaising with friends and their networks. The movie opens with Frankie pilfering a huge diamond at Antwerp. Insiders help him from the notorious the Russian Mob that his employer is works for (Vaughn et. al. 0:35). Perhaps the author wanted to suggest that in a society that does not give people equal opportunities such as employment should expect social ills such as crime and drug use. Frankie uses his networks and cunningness to smuggle the diamond he stole by use of plain. However, the Russians take his gun so that they do not implicate him and cause problems. Frankie makes use of his friends to meet a one Boris so that he can secure him a gun. This is how he has to survive in London; the gun will help him in executing various crimes so that he can get money and meet pay his bills. It is a web of betrayal and suspicion. This is especially true the gangster who took his gun conspires with Boris to steal the diamond away from Frankie. The gangster is actually Boris’ brother (Vaughn et. al. 0:56). Frankie is smart enough and heads to America. Tommy and Turkish survive by engaging themselves in shady deals. They are entrepreneurs who use their brains to deal in slot machines and unlicensed boxing. Turkish is quite different from the rest of the cast in that he runs genuine businesses. He has arranged for a fight that will involve his best fighter and but is managed by a local gangster known as Brick Top. However, he experiences a problem when his net does not work. Because he has no fighter, he recruits Mickey to feel this slot. This shows that Mickey can fit almost anywhere. It is survival for the fittest. Brick Top forces Turkish o fix the match to compensate for the change in fighters. Turkish does not like the idea of being in debt to Brick Top. Another issue that arises is whether Mickey will actually go down (match fixing). It is a game of survival where everyone only wants what works best for them and brings in money (Vaughn et. al. 0:41). Boris takes advantage of Mickey’s gambling addiction to steal the diamond from him. He does this so that it will seem he is not directly involved. Frankie places a bet on the fight. He hired two pawnbrokers to attack Mickey on the way. When he disappeared, Frankie’s employer and New York kingpin of crime hired Tony to find pursue Frankie and find the diamond. As summarized, it can be seen that various characters employ tricks, double standards, conning, gambling and match fixing so that they can survive. Through the movie, the author is able to make the viewer have a clear view of a crime not just in London, but also in every society. In addition, it depicts that various groups within a society are predisposed to crime than others. Another implication is that when that life in underworld London is met, one never knows when they will win or loss; each is equally likely (Vaughn et. al. 0:58). One must be smart enough to assess the risks in life. Perhaps, the author wanted to illuminate the social ills in the society and the need to come up with a society that gives equal opportunities to all. He also showed that various people take part in crime; there are the drug lords and well-connected figures in the society that help fuel crime. Corruption is also thematic in this Snatch. What I find questionable about Snatch is the depiction of excessive violence. This is because, in today’s world, teenagers want consume almost everything they see on TV. Although it is a movie that depicts gangsters and crime, the author ought to have minimized the usage of violence. The film Snatch is one that is skillfully worked out. This narrative provides convenient instances of humor, so that although the story revolves around crime and its dark appeal, audiences can laugh and have a comic relief. Characters such as Mickey are shown to be smart. They help to develop the plot so that the transition from one episode to another is much easier. The general mood in the story makes in interesting and enjoyable. The background music is inspiring and accentuates different segments of the film. Some characters such as Boris inject comedy with their antics and sense of humor. Perhaps the director of the movie wanted to break the monotony typical of most crime movies. The movie is action-packed; the characters are interesting. Everything about the movie is enjoyable right from the title snatch. Perhaps Richie’s Snatch resembles his previous movie, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The imagery and metaphors used remain unchanged. The setting, the tone and some of the actors have not been changed. Richie chose characters that represent every marginalized group in London, and perhaps show some of the stereotypes that exist in the society. The narrative structure of the movie gives it an edge. He makes use of visual mosaic so that the viewer in engrossed throughout. The scrip uses the element of cause and effect so that later the viewer becomes part of the movie. Some of the techniques that the director uses include point of attack where the narrator begins by use of flashback. The narrator begins with introducing himself and members of his cast; he used back-story, where which covers the whole movie. The story has more twists and turning points and includes unexpected and novel dimensions from the very start of the movie. Mickey’s rise as a major character is an unexpected perspective in a way that alters the course of action of for three of the main characters. Another unexpected dimension occurs when a dog swallows the diamond that most of the stories revolved around. Perhaps the final turning point occurs when Brick Top gets a raw deal and in the way in which the audience receives it. This serves to heighten the impact. Point of view is used thus: initially, the narrative is from the main character. The story is told from Turkish point of view. When the flashback began, the point of view shifted to the director’s. The extensive use of turns and twists in the film leaves the audience in suspense for most of the time (Vaughn et. al. 1:56). To release the tension, the director employs humor to dissipate tension. The tone of the movie is comedic although there are a couple of twists and turns and some somber moments; the element of laughter thus dominates. Snatch has multiple conflicts, twists and turns. These conflicts are dispersed throughout the movie and at relatively fast pace. In conclusion, it can be argued that the director used characters that are symbolic of the various marginalized groups in London. He was able to use comedy and suitable antics to not only engage the reader, but also capture the sensitive topic on crime. This an intricate network involves the poor, the rich, the master and the servant. Everyone is trying to survive. Creativity is required to pay the bills; it is survival for the fittest.
