The main intent behind is painting is to show the love of a mother for her baby and the level of care she provides to her baby just to make them feel comfortable and secure. Like in this painting, Helen has shown the strength and love of women in all her other paintings as well. This shows she was a strong supporter of feminism. Helen McNicoll is successful in expressing her views on feminism and the mother-baby bond. This is truly exceptional and it is the reason behind the immense popularity of this painting.
