Georges Seurat, A Sunday on La Grande Jatte The main themes and ideas discussed in the video are the aspects of coloring and luminousness or brightness. The painting has complex color mixture which eventually helps in making the painting bright with respect to other respective features. It is an art of its kind in all its aspects. The painting addresses the science of vision perfectly. The selection of all the painting’s features from modes of dressing and the nature of characters can be used in tracing the painting’s time (Youtube 3).
The painter succeeded in making use of varying colors to pass across a particular message to the viewer. For instance, the use of umbrellas, as well as variation of golden greenish color and dark green, helps in indicating that it was a sunny day. The variation of colors creates the impression of shadows. The bluish color on the far left of the painting reveals a water body. Every aspect in the painting is independent and hence making it easy for every viewer to learn the mind of the painter clearly.
The manner in which people have worn clothes especially women helps the viewer the manner in which the society was living in the era of the painting. Similarly, looking at the way people in the painting are behaving indicates the mood of the environment. It seems the area was a picnic site where people had come to relax and enjoy themselves. The painter succeeded in using the science of colors diversity in achieving the expected impression or brightness as well as passing the intended information (Youtube 4).
