Extract of sample "Analysis and Perception of Film Philadelphia Story"

There is Gorge, who has shown an interest in marrying Tracy. Moreover, we have the family of Tracy, and that is; Margaret, Dinah, and Seth Lord. Also, there is the boss of the Spy magazine by Kidd among other characters featured in the film. However, the primary objective of this study is to examine the plot of the Philadelphia story critically as well as analyze the principal characters in the film.

The director of the film introduces us to the Main characters by showing us their character traits. For instance, the director presents Cary Grant as a violent character in the play. His violent features are seen when he pushes Tracy down in their time of divorce. Moreover, Cary is seen to gullible for Kidd to blackmail him to sneak Ruth and Jimmy ( Liz and Mike) to the mansion impersonating to be Junius, the son of Seth. On the other hand, Katherine is presented to be a violent and temperamental individual. Her character is seen when she smashes Dexter’s suitcase at the doorway during their separation. Besides, Catherine is seen to be arrogant toward other people’s weaknesses. On the other hand, Ruth is introduced as secretive because of her silence on her last divorce, and at the same time, she is presented as a loving person.

Costume changes in the film have contributed a lot towards the presentation of the real characters, more so the ladies. The designer of costumes in the Philadelphia story (Adrian) has a lot of positive comments as well as an excellent reputation for his great influence in the female fashion industry. For instance, the provision of men’s wear to Katherine was the first and most revolutionary thing that he did in the introduction of the film. Therefore, putting on means wear depicted Katherine to be a strong woman who can handle any challenge before her. Therefore, the designer designed Katherine’s’ clothes in that, they can show her braveness. Moreover, the wedding gown that she put on on the eve of her wedding had a little armor design. It was serving as a simple battle that she would have with the three men as well as her emotions. That is; the designer designed her clothes that show female ability as indicated by the strong metallic bracelets on the shoulders of the dress that she wore.

The film has various themes that the director passed across in the play. For instance, there is the theme of love. The theme is seen in the relationship that exists between Dexter and Tracy. The theme of the class also emerges because of the life of Tracy which is surrounded by wealth while that of Liz and Mike is full of life challenges. That is; they had to struggle to find their daily bread. Moreover, the film shows the responsibility of the media to the community in reporting credible and reliable information.

I was very impressed with the cloth designs that Adrian designed and gave to Katherine. Moreover, I was impressed with the flow of the film for it is easily understood. The film is also fun to watch for it has a lot of action. Finally, I was impressed with how each character mastered his or her role in the play for they gave it their best and made it fun to watch.
