Unpacking what Solomon-Godeau meant The means that male folks no matter where they reside, will still see women as objects of desire and will go to any extent in trying to satisfy their urge. The male gender usually tries to find freedom like sexual one, and limit it to their own point of view. They demonstrate these fantasies through their actions (Solomon-Godeau 120).Primitivism in art means the movement that uses visual forms from ancient people like Paul Gauguin, where he used motifs from Tahiti in paintings as well as ceramics.

Sources available for the art included the ceramics and other paintings found in prehistoric sites around Paris. These painting came from far and wide. Race and gender informed the artist in various ways since men were perceived superior and powerful. Imaginary knowledge and rape was also rampant, and these fantasies are underpinned sometimes by people practicing real rape as well as real power (Solomon-Godeau 125). This lead to oppression.2. Strategies, actions and the vicesGauguin escaped European civilization and technology and took refuge in Tahiti.

This action made him live a simple and natural lifestyle. His desire for sexual freedom was manifested in his paintings. He viewed Tahiti as the earthly arcadia of love, naked nymphs and gentle climate to mark it all. He also extended the academic pastoral to include all other non-European models. He believed in celebrating the society of his adoption against colonialism (Solomon-Godeau, 127). What undermined him as primitive is that he took adolescent mistresses as young as fifteen years. He also saw sexual freedom from the male point of view.

It concludes that elements of primitivism involves interweave of race, sexual fantasies and power (Solomon-Godeau 130). In the end, he victimized the Tahitians because he regarded them as ‘others’.Work CitedSolomon-Godeau, Abigail. Going native. Minnesota: University of Minnesota Press, 1992.Print.
