Evaluation Essay of Movie Home Alone The Home Alone movie was produced in the nineteen ninety by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. The movie is a Christmas comedy in which Kevin, an eight-year accidentally remains in Chicago when his parents make their way to Paris for Christmas holiday. Kevin liked his stay at home until the time when two burglars came to their home. This paper will have an in-depth analysis of the movie Home Alone, with the focus on acting, storyline, humor, and the theme of the movie. A general rating of the comedy as good is a fair view. At the start of the movie, conversation between Kevin, his dad and mum set the movie going. The Christmas mood begins with background music that reflects Christmas songs. Viewers therefore get a belief that that is where most focus of the movie will lie. However, a great suspense develops early in the movie when Kevin’s parents leave for Paris without him. More characters appear in the film when the parents of Kevin leave for Paris. Close ups are used to introduce the characters while mid shots are employed during conversations. A selection of natural dress code shows a normal family image, for instance the appearance of the mother of Kevin in a long dress shows that she is an elderly mother. The suburb Chicago shows that Kevin is from a rich family and the lighting further emphasizes the festive season. The acting was well done. The main actors are Macaulay Culkin, who plays the role of eight-year boy called Kevin and two burglars, Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci. In addition, the actors mind their language. This has made the suitable for all family viewing. The movie commences with Kevin’s family giving an impression of them as the main characters with Kevin as the protagonist because he is an only child. Even so, the story develops quickly with Kevin as the main character and more characters appear. Culkin had many scenes to play, which he did well. His high level of confidence and self-esteem is also a contributing factor to success of the story. The woman playing the role of Kevin’s mother uses little makeup. For that reason, she appears more mature with a motherly figure. This is further emphasized by her dressing code. The story line of the movie is just amazing. There is a striking balance between religion, family life and just some stupid ideas that bring out the comic feel of the movie. The family life is clear at the beginning of the movie when Kevin and the parents chat happily. Towards the end of the movie, there is an expression of socialization. This happens when Kevin is saved from burglars by a neighbor who is least expected to, because the neighbor is suspected of murder. The Christmas songs reflect on Christianity whereby the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated. Numerous events take place in the movie. Some of them question the relevance of the movie. First, it is a rare scenario of a family of such class to leave an eight-year-old kid alone. Secondly, the things that Kevin does are literally impossible for an eight-year-old boy, for example, when Kevin set up the traps for the burglars. The kind of trap set and tricks played require a more mature person. Lastly, the two burglars reasoning were far below their age. Humor is evident in the movie Home Alone, which makes it qualify the movie as a comedy. The background song at the onset of the movie shows that something bad is bound to happen. These create a wonderful scene of suspense since one might have expected it to be a horror and not a comedy. It is also evident that home alone brings to mind the thoughts that most children have, for example to remain at home alone to do things that, they are restricted from doing at that given period. Kevin brings out this childhood fantasy in a comical way. For instance, a kid should to get frightened, worried or even cry on the realization that the kid he is alone without warning or when one without adult supervision. As the sages put it, the best way of killing a joke is explaining it. Even so, Kevin jumps about happily creating a warm cheerful moment. The movie in itself has two sides. Looking at the issue at an adult perspective, there is a possibility of disgust. This is due to the abnormal performance of an eight-year-old boy. The theme of the movie is Christmas. It is evident through the Yuletide carols. These tunes are traditional Christmas songs origin. A child like-environment is emphasized by the tune, ‘Somewhere in my memory’, which is the main title theme. As some children perform ‘Oh Holly night’, nostalgic Christmas memories come to mind. Christmas lighting at night has an emphasis on the Christmas theme. The presence of Christmas trees and Santa clause emphasize at the same. In the main, home alone is a good movie that should be watched comfortably by most teenagers and be able to enjoy it. There is superb acting by the three main characters as well as a perfect blend for different environment. The few characters in the movie make it easy to follow by kids because of their low concentration span. Numerous sounds in the movie such as Doors slamming, mumbling and bickering between families and shouting equally add spice to the movie. Works cited Hughes, John. Home Alone. (1990). Read More
