Reading response The fundamental goal of Camera Lucida is to come up with a unique mode of observation that leads to a new consciousness through photography. Barthes tends to distinguish between photography and other types of representation by noting its disorder’s symptom which suggests that photography cannot be classified as per the existing standards. Barthe’s aims is to fabricate a completely customized framework; a framework that is quite different from the previous and already existing accounts of photos and their representation wherein the photography can be classified, and its essence can be retrieved.

According to Barthes, it would take him “a History of Looking” (Barthes 12) in order to make a rational analysis and in so doing, Barthes tries to take into consideration the basic roles of subjectivity and emotion in the accounting and experience of photography. The irreducible singularity possessed by an image or a photograph defines the essential nature of photography’s subjective experience. Barthes defines the job of a photographer as one who makes truth permanent. This is an account in which the writer has tried to reflect, as deeply as possible, about the science, nature, and existence of photography.

The writing presents a detailed account of the various manifestations of the art or skill of photography. Reading Barthes’s account of photography redefines photography in the contemporary age in a new way. In the present age, which can be classified as the digital age fundamentally because of the omnipresence of photography, the importance of such pieces of writing that help create a greater understanding of photography cannot be overemphasized.
