When I look at it, I feel the calmness of the moment. The water looks pacific; the sun is dark orange and the world is about to wake up. I can feel that it is still a bit chilly, but everything is going to change when the sun will be yellow and bright again. The colors used by Monet are a bit melancholic. The shadows of ships in the port look like ghosts of civilization and fishermen in their small boats seem to be the only alive creatures around.

I have seen sunrise only several times in my life, but my impressions are different from Monet's vision. This picture does not trigger my memory; yet, it has a powerful influence on the way I feel. It makes me concentrate on my thoughts and, perhaps, add some sad tint to them. Even though this painting is iconic for Monet and impressionists in general, the artist has works that seem to be more appealing to me. Read More
