Extract of sample "Analysis of the Film - Chasing Ice"

As the film is about the adventure of James Balog in the north arctic part of the globe, the pictures he took on the matter of the “Chasing ice” were clear indications of the changing climatic conditions in the global environment. The changing the status of the ice or glaciers is of great interest as he directionally shows the different conditions. The contrast between the prior conditions of the global glaciers and the current and by the time the photos were captured gives the title its meaning, ‘Chasing Ice’ (Merli 1). The director of the movie shifts his attention from different themes in the movie with unique and derivational techniques. The move from the coverage of the possible causative agents to the condition of the world is distinctively liberated from the links of the show on the current conditions. This implies that the movie is produced systematically.

As one may expect, the moment the documentary touches on the causes of any issue of concern, it is to address the possible effects and the results. This is the same manner and order upon which the movie is based. This, therefore, entails that the movie occupies all the information that one could critically expect from the movie. From the status of the world in the times when human activities had less impact on the condition of the world through pictures, to the present condition of the glacier in the Arctic region, the movie contains all the required information about the topic of climate change (Merli 4).

In the extreme ice survey undertaken by James Balog, the melting ice is witnessed in Alaska and Ohio. This reveals the possible impact of humans on the environment, and the author takes pictures of the ice flow in given regions of the world. The flowing ice is associated with the effect of human activities such as industrialization and other causes of global warming on the environment. It is intensively covered in the movie with the director giving caution that if the recommended remedial action is taken, then the current status of the world’s environment would lose its value even to the reactive humans (Merli para 2 of chap 3).

Summary of the Film

The movie, “the chasing ice” is an educative and explorative film as much research and geographical survey are involved. It is best for educative purposes and more so in researching the condition and the dynamism of the environmental condition of the world (Merli 12). The ability of the filmmaker to play the pictures sequentially gives the film the reason and importance of great relevance to the current situation of the world. “Chasing Ice” implied the movement of the ice due to a change of state linked with increased global temperatures which are caused by human activities.
