Business: Aristotles Unities Section Movies based on legal procedures have never been appreciated by me, but this was different 12 angry men. Watching justice prevail was one experience that compelled or rather made me remain attentive the whole of the 99 minutes. The characters understood their scripts as this could be portrayed by smooth jury procedures. I must admit the movie inspired me to be a lawyer. The three famous unities according to the Aristotelian are the unities of time, place as well as action.

The unity of time narrows the duration of an action to a day while that of place limits the locality or where the actions are meant to occur. Finally, the unity of actions restricts only a specific set of actions with cause and effect relationships, defined with a clear beginning, middle and end. These unities have been observed in several plays and films and this work tends to explain this. 12 Angry men is 1957 film that follows the Aristotelian unities. Section 2 The film has 12 characters following a jury judgment in a courtroom.

The unity of action is well portrayed as film has one set of actions except the film opening which occurs outside the jury room. After the film introductions all actions occur in the room until the judge give his verdict over the case. The whole movie is made by the 12 characters in a single set up or plot i.e. the jury room and they are not referred by their real names but with the boy, the lady across the street etc. The movie is about a single day hearing hence the unity of time is observed.

(Deltoro, 2007) However, some audiences tend to despise movies or plays observing the three unities. Such films are said to be boring and not creative. Capturing different geographical scenes and locations makes the films more appealing and this keeps the audience attentive. The modern movies of film industry rarely observe the action unity since few people would enjoy a 2 hour movie with a single set of actions.ReferenceDeltoro, C. (2007). English through movies.
