Pablo Picasso became born to a father who was a painter and an art teacher and a mother who was an artist. His parents were the late Mr. Jose Ruiz and Mrs. Maria Picasso Luiz. At age fourteen, right before his family moved to Barcelona, his painting style and technique had vastly improved since he matured in his art (Swanson 23). This happened when his passion and his skill for art became explored more often at a tender age. This inevitably affected his class work when he attended school and so he dropped out to pursue his passion- art.

 In having such notable skills at such a tender age, Picasso decided to drop out of school and follow a career in art and painting. Having a natural talent and gift for art, Picasso managed to experiment and come up with unimaginable works of art at that time. He and his friend Georges Braque founded the well-known abstract movement known also as Cubism. As an artist, his style became diverse with his ideologies, explicable and experimental techniques, and through his different theories (Swanson 34). Picasso was a man full of imagination and possibilities as displayed in his artwork. Apart from being an artist, he was also a thinker likened to people like Albert Einstein. Living in a culture that obeyed tradition, he managed to disobey it and followed his wishes.

He defied the formal rules of art to explore and master realistic painting at a tender age. This made them so unpredictable with his art and designs. When young, Picasso’s paintings majorly revolved around cubism and sex. In fact, there is a lot of nude artwork in which he demonstrates how the body of a woman could display a lot. Through his mindset, he did brilliant sculpture work and graphic art forms in stage design, ceramics, and mosaics (Swanson 63). To this present day, his art and work are in museums and in personal collections all around the universe.

How did Picasso’s work shape his art?

As a teenager, he did his first painting in cubism known as the ladies of Avignon. Picasso loved displaying some of his art through paintings entailing the nature of a woman’s body. Through this painting, he gained a recognizable platform in the art design movement. In his work, his inventions came about through experimenting with new styles and the use of different and unique materials like bicycle parts to give his designs his own touch. Picasso was a man full of ideas and never got afraid of expressing them despite the era he lived in (Swanson 12). Picasso displayed his work with passion even for the nasty pictures he had, he still had a terrific comments about it. With time, his work managed to stir quite a lot of controversies to the extent of them becoming famous and sought by many people who heard about them.

Back in his days, he and his friend Francisco founded a young art magazine that focused on varied aspects of society and acknowledged the state of the poor so as to help in boosting their state of living. He later became a favorite of some American art collectors Leo and Gertrude Stein. Mrs. Gertrude Stein became his principal patron by acquiring most of his paints and drawings and exhibiting them in her salon. Through this Picasso became many artists’ favorite and this made his art fetched by many people who loved his uniqueness. His move to Paris and meeting with many poets and other artists escalated his potential and fame in the art and music industry (Swanson 67).

How, why, and when did he get famous?

Through Mrs. Gertrude’s salon exhibitions of Picasso’s paints and sculptured art, many people became fascinated by their young talent and had a vested interest in exploring more with him. This is how Picasso got to meet his friends George Braque, and Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler that later came up with Picasso’s idea of the Cubism movement. The cubism movement explored the blue period, the Rose Period, the African influence, and the classicism-surrealism periods (Swanson 14). Thus, opening up rendezvous with poets, and fellow artisans, and visits to most gallery scenes made his talent recognized. This happened between the early 20th century, in 1907, and later on in 1915. 

Picasso’s art can be categorized into periods. The commonly accepted periods for his work include the Blue Period (1901-04), Rose Period (1905-07), African-influenced period (1908-09), and synthetic cubism (1912-19). How Picasso became famous, can be derived from how he made his artwork during this period. Before 1901, Picasso was under training by his father (Swanson 8). As years passed, he managed to amass skills that no one could comprehend. As years advanced, so did his famous begin to grow. Producing works of art that were controversial in those times, triggered a lot of criticism, and that is how he managed to remain in the limelight. Picasso had ample imagination when it came to art and even extended some of it to sculpture work and stage design.

What contribution is His art related to in the American culture?

Picasso made a lot of contributions to American culture. With his paintings, he influenced a lot of young artists and painters not to be bound by tradition, but to become modernized in their thinking.

His work became favorites to some of America’s art collectors like Leo and Gertrude Stein. In addition, Mrs. Gertrude Stein was a principal patron in acquiring most of his paintings thereby penetrating more into American society (Swanson 99). His paintings became widely displayed to the Americans, and many people became intrigued by them.

In conclusion, Picasso contributed immensely to the field of art and influenced many people at the same time. Up to date, Picasso became remembered due to some of his works of art.
