The Villain Syndrome in The Incredibles - Movie Review Example

Mr. Incredible ditches Syndrome as a young fan who wanted to be his partner. Young Syndrome exacts revenge years by trying to prove he can outdo Mr. Incredible—to the extent of putting his family in grave danger.Viewers are made to consider violence as an integral and positive part of the movie for without which the Parr kids would not have been able to bring out the best in themselves. After all, if they had not been subjected to Syndrome’s menace, they would not have been able to rise above childish scuffles.

And the consequent violence—the destruction of the villain Syndrome—is thereby justified. He is the “bad guy” after all. And as the cliché goes, “they lived happily ever after.” The viewers are satisfied. Very formulaic.The Incredibles is, by far, one of the best-animated films in history. The characters are interesting. The storytelling is entertaining. The conflicts are deeply engaging. And the entire movie itself is a great treat. However, if I had the chance to effect some revisions, I would have made the villain Syndrome’s character more sympathetic and less abominable.

Had he been portrayed in a better light, viewers would not have hated him as much. His character was handled improperly, to begin with. Nothing is wrong with a kid who hero-worships. This premise could have been exploited positively. As a director, I would have probably skewed some personal circumstances to make him appear as also a victim, not really justifying his violence, but only expounding on why he became the way he was. He could also have ended up on the same side of the fence as the rest of the protagonists.

Now, that is more like “they all lived happily ever after…”
