The family is portrayed as normal but as the films tag line suggests look closer then it is possible to fully understand the implications that takes place in this seemingly happy home. My perception is that the film is masterfully directed by the famous theater director Sam Mendes and encompasses a great number of cinematic techniques that appear fresh and exciting. Critics have mentioned many of these techniques. However, they failed to notice the clever use of color used throughout the film, especially the color red. Psychologically speaking, Sam Mendes effectively uses the color red; as a central design to accentuate mood and theme, to contrast families, and to reveal characters personalities and feelings. This paper speaks of whether the movie should be allowed to see on the part of the college students or not and it looks at the reaction to this movie in the psychological sense.
Since this paper delves into the psychological tone that I have set in reaction to the movie, I have focused on the color red which has been used widely in this paper and it is thus the point of discussion in the following lines as well. As we know that in American culture red is a color of various meanings and images.

Movie Review: American Beauty. In his work, How Movies Helped Save My Soul, Higgins challenged us to examine a movie or film for underlying issues that are eating at our subconscious, and sometimes even conscious, psyche. We tend to observe the world around us from a distance, keeping as far away from unpleasant circumstances as can comfortably be.
What/ Who is the American Beauty? This is a fitting question which relates to the 1999 Academy Award Best Picture movie American Beauty. The movie is most artistic and entertaining to watch, but the film author uses an off-cam voice of main character Lester Burnham at the movie’s tail-end, saying that the movie’s message may not be easily understood.
The film reveals some level of relevance based on American life hence keeps the audience entertained through various humorous instances. Several scenes used in the film utilize great set of aesthetics connecting perfectly with mood and feeling of the movie (“American Beauty”).
The film felt clunky, exploitative and cheap. The third time I watched it, going through it scene by scene to make notes for this paper, I was struck by its capacity to evoke a multiplicity of associations, and so by a need to limit what I tried to say about it as I thought about the kinds of questions which it gives rise to.
According to the report the film “American beauty” makes abundant use of metaphors in order to illustrate an inner message that is represented by the metaphorical allusions. The characters in the film are an average middle class American family and their neighbors, yet their portrayal in the film has been done in such a way that they do not appear quite real.
This girl is in the post pubertal stage and entices Lester in an attempt to seduce him. In this movie, Lester his attempting to rediscover his youth as his married life is under threat.The movie is holding the many themes t it but exclusively portrays the midlife crisis behavior of men in their 40s.
