Analysis of Differing and Opposing Theoretical Explanations to Current Tourism Issues Task: Analysis of Differing and Opposing Theoretical Explanations to Current Tourism Issues Introduction Various issues have emerged of late concerning tourism. The changes that have been realized are due to other factors such as change in economic state, political implications, and environmental factors. Competition has also increased globally as tourists’ interests become more diverse. As a result, the tourism sector has made adjustments, but some areas are not adjustable from within the docket of the sector thus no much change has been made. Within the tourism industry, there are other industries, which work hand in hand with the tourism sector. These include the transport industry, hotel industry among other sectors that prove relevant to the tourism industry (John 2003). Politics, directly and indirectly, has always affected the operation of the tourism sector. These include the political wrangles that end up to conflict thus hampering the whole activity of tourism. The political leaders in some cases determine how tourism is carried out within a nation. Considering the responsibility of a country to protect her members, the authorities may advise its nationals not to visit a particular country due to insecurity or even impose burn to travel in some cases, declaration of a state of emergency hinders travel (Andrew 2009). The ways in which issues such as environmental factors affect the industry will also be discussed in the subsequent sections. Through this analysis, other trends will be seen to promote tourism the competition among tourist attraction and different sections are drivers towards improving this sector. Political implications can also be geared towards improving the sector within the nation. Efforts done by the government to improve these sectors are also drivers towards improving this sector. Travel and tourism industry’s efficiency also contribute to better performance; otherwise, mal performance of this sector is realized. Influence of the government The government of any nation must always work towards increasing the revenues it acquires. In so doing, it can encourage the tourism sector. To begin, the country may offer training related to the sector in order to provide the best quality service in the sector. The government can also ensure that the rich sectors or tourist attraction factors are identified thus employ excellent mechanism for maximum exploitation (John 1999). At the same point, the government can offer the required facilities in promoting tourism. These include infrastructure and security, which is in their docket. The government can also take charge in the advertising of the tourist attraction sites. Most governments have ministries that look into the operation of the tourism sector. To the contrary, the government can fail in its part to carry out its duties in promoting tourism this may lead to the poor performance of this sector (Malcolm & John 2000). In fact, the world’s tourism competition has gone hitch to an extent that most countries are ensuring that the tourism sector is well advertised and taken care of. Incase this is not done to standards, the sector becomes dormant, and the sector suffers the loss a great deal. Political implications Politics impacts on the tourism sector may be to the good or bad of the industry. This applies in various ways. The negative implications of politics to this sector include political wars that may lead to terrorism, which is a killer of the industry. The industry receives clients from different sectors. Of late terrorism has been a world’s problem caused majorly by political differences, which may be religious driven. The sector, therefore, suffers the loss of terrorism because of politics (John 2009). Positive impacts of politics, in a relative way, may be similar to the influence of the government. Politics may play a part in that country leaders may develop friendship such that the countries encourage the tourism among themselves. It is also through positive criticism through political processes that corrections and directions can be given in promoting the development of the industry. Politics can also play a part in the development of the sector through ensuring legislations that work well for the industry (David 2006). Economic fluctuations Very recently, the world was stricken by an economic crisis. This was felt in almost all sectors, in the world. The crisis had a negative impact on the sector. Most of the tourists could not make it to their destinations due to change in preference because of economic crisis (Baron 2008). On the other hand, as the economy improves, the sector also improves since more tourists board to visit various sites because of availability of funds. Change in Environmental conditions The environmental conditions may change because of varied factors. A major known factor is the global worming, which has affected the sector more negatively than positively. The global worming has led to the interference of the natural habitat of the tourist attraction organisms and even interfered with the sectors, which attract tourists because of extreme weather conditions (Anwar 2011). The weather condition has since changed because of global warming thus impacting on the features such as the world animals and the natural vegetation. The ice cups formed in the Polar Regions, however, tend to last longer than before because of these weather changes Other industries that play put to tourism Travel industry For any tourist, any visit to the tour site requires movement. Thus, the travel industry plays a part in the enabling of the sectors performance. The travel industry may include the motor vehicle, the train, jet or ships depending on the tourist’s destination. This sector, in the recent past, has improved by technological growth. Consequently, the tourism sector has improved, as traveling is now more comfortable. However, these massive carriers, specifically the large ships and jets pauses major threat to a large number of tourists because of accidents (John & Jack 2009). This is the major pitfall of this improvement in this industry that can only be reduced but not eliminated Hotel industry The tourists will obviously need accommodation in most cases. As a result, the hotel industries have always offered the service to them. In the recent years, the hotel industries have improved the services provided by ensuring more security and luxurious services to clients. The industry of late provides recreational facilities, which are up to date thus more comfortable than before (Garrett 1998). To the contrary, these hotels have become too expensive for the tourists thus affecting the industry negatively. Technology at large Technology is one sector that has had remarkable growth in the recent past. This has contributed to the development of the industry in that the marketing has been enabled more efficiently than before (John 2008). Operations in the industry and related sectors have also been improved through digitalization. The only negative part in this sector is that it grows too fast that it becomes expensive to update as faster dumping is experienced Conclusion From the above illustrations and analysis of theories, it can be concluded that the tourism industry is affected by various factors both positively and negatively (Helmut 2006). The way in which these factors apply depends on the context. The industry is also dependent on other industries. Hence, factors affecting these industries also affect the tourism sector.
