Constant and proper aircraft maintenance can make a great difference between the profit and loss margin for any flight school or even a stable profitable aviation business. All aircraft managers should stay ahead of aircraft maintenance in that aircrafts are very expensive and any slight damage can result in a lot of loss to the company due to crashes (Deb & Deb, 2010). It is therefore a fact that aviation maintenance can boost the business profitability both directly and indirectly. This essay aims at looking the way aviation maintenance in the competitive market helps at increasing profit or causing loss to the company and how the maintenance impact on the company’s base line. Aircraft maintenance is the most important part of aviation operations. According to Higham (2003), about twelve percent of aviation accidents were caused by unsafe aviation maintenance error-provoking practices and flawed organizational processes. A good example in the past is the aloha airlines Flight 243 and Midwest Flight 5481 that put the spotlight on some factors such as inadequate resources and poor monitoring system (Narayan, 2004). These two planes were very expensive and the damage that they caused to the companies was had to be refilled. Billions of money and hundreds of lives were lost due to lack of proper maintenance. Professional pilots have always argued that squawks can take place any time and hence aircraft maintenance is important for the pilots and passengers safety. Continuous maintenance of aircrafts enables the pilots to gain confidence in all flights in that they are aware that all kind of discrepancies can be attended to quickly and the problem resolved faster enough (Pearson & Riley, 2015). There must be a proper management suit that can solve aircraft problems within the shortest time possible. This is because a single mistake can lead to cancelation of tickets thus resulting in loss to the aviation company. Initiation of pilot discrepancy is also very essential in that the pilots can report emergencies in real time. This enables the managers to organize for the necessary repairs of the aircrafts immediately thus ensuring that there is no stoppage that can lead to the loss within the company (Deb & Deb, 2010). It is through this that the squawks can be corrected by the engineers by following up the emails through cloud computing in the SkyManager (Pearson & Riley, 2015). It is through maintenance that proper tracking of aircrafts can be done. Aircrafts flies across continents and across oceans. A small mistake can occur leading to loss of an aircraft for example the Malaysian aircraft that lost recently and it was not found due to its inability to be tracked (Pearson & Riley, 2015). The Malaysian airline company got a lot of loss in that the deceased families were raising a lot of questions on how an aircraft could not be tracked. Most of them blamed the company arguing that the plane was not had not undergone proper maintenance (Narayan, 2004). This has resulted to loss of customers in that the aviation business is very competitive in the current world. It is through maintenance that safety is guaranteed and it’s through safety guarantee that a company wins more clients that in that brings more profit to the company. When the managers managing aircraft stays ahead of potential problems that is possible through maintenance, communication, crew management and accounting within the company becomes very simple. Maintenance also makes aviation compliance rules easier and makes tracking possible all the time (Deb & Deb, 2010). The ever-changing conditions of aviation make maintenance the most important activity due to high competition in the sector. This is because it can affect flight schedules as well the crew because when there is a little risk detected, a flight is postponed and this affects the company. The airline management must therefore, train and acquire cutting edge management skills in aviation, operating systems and the state of the art tools to improve efficiency and productivity and to reduce costs of operation to meet the ever rising demands of the passengers and to successfully compete in aviation business (Narayan, 2004). Advantages of automation Automation is the process of integrating machines in various fields including manufacturing to automatically carry on activities like packing, dispensing, welding, cutting and palletizing. Proper utilization of automated machines increases productivity which results in high profit in the industry. When it incorporates properly, automation brings a lot of profits to the industry (Gupta & Arora, 2009). There are several advantages accredited to automation that include more proficient use of materials, higher production rates and increased productivity, high quality products, reduced working hours, better safety and reduced time consumed in factories. The use of automation has been contributed by two major things in profit and loss analysis, that is, higher output and increased productivity. Automation has been known over time to have consistency in quality of the products especially the manufacturing sector despite discrepancy that humans produce high quality than machines. Research indicates that automation produces high quality products with less variability leading to creator control of the product quality. As a matter of fact, the increased process control due to automation leads to more efficient use of materials thus resulting in less scrap. This is a clear indication that the loss margin is reduced when automation is done in the industry. The other essential basis for automating an industrial operation is the workers safety. When the systems are automated, the workers are removed from the workplace and hence, this minimizes the chances of them being exposed to the factory environment that can be hazardous to them due to gas or factory emission. This will enable the industry to minimize the finances that are allocated to maintain the health of the workers thus using this money in other productive sectors like factory expansion resulting in high profits. Maintaining the physical well being of the worker through automation will also minimize the number of casualty cases in the factory thus, minimizing court cases from affected workers. According to Gupta & Arora (2009), automation reduces the number of hours consumed by the workers in the factory per day. It is argued that the average number of hours saved per week through automation is 70 hours. The standard workweek of 40 hours has been achieved in developed countries like United States through automation and mechanization. Automation has also played a great role in reduction of time needed to process a typical production order through the industry. Time management is one of the key factors a company requires to meet in order to make profit within the factory. The rate of production in a factory depends with the number of hours used positively and hence automation reduces the waste of time resulting in high profits. Automation also results in better flow space utilization I that a single machine can perform tasks that could be done by many humans hence, reduces the footprint of a work area by automation parts of the production area. The floor space that could be wasted is saved through automation and is used to perform other operations and also make the process in the factory flow more efficient. Automation also enables the company to remain competitive in the market. This is achieved in that the customers like buying their goods from companies with reduced schedules and cost. When the cost of production is reduced, the price of the goods generated by the company also reduces thus resulting in winning of more customers leading to high profitability (Gupta & Arora , 2009). Reducing the cost of production through automation attracts investors and encourages shareholders to continuously invest thus propagating factory activities. Automation also saves local jobs in that it does not force relocation of company to areas with lower labor costs instead automation is incorporated in few key areas. Keeping the company in the current location despite increase in labor cost improves profitability in that the money that could be used in shifting the company is invested in other useful projects within the company like expansion. System automation also makes the clients happier because it gives alert when the problem arises making fixing as fast as possible thus it increases the number of clients due to quality of services. Increasing the number of clients to the company leads to high profitability. In conclusion, as the company grows over point in time, it becomes very difficult to maintain the number of workers to produce products that can meet the needs of the ever growing population. Waste of products in the company due to human error is also minimized by automation and maintenance. All the business operations can perform well with system automation and aircraft maintenance.
