Literature review Farrell, Sanchez and Corley (2009) have written an article that defines what a software-defined radio is and its requirements in general. They have been able to present an overview of the criteria used in such platforms, the current development state of the concept/system and its future trends. The article has also provided the reader with detailed high-performance flexible radio platforms known as the maynooth adaptable radio system (MARS) developed in exploring use of SDR concept in infrastructure provision elements in a telecommunication application like multimedia broadcasters.
Gatherer and Auslander (2002) wrote a book that clearly demonstrates how DSPs program applications are used in mobile communications especially with the onset of I-mode in Japan and WAP in Europe. This processes made it possible for mobile to move out of mobile telephony to the world of mobile data. They have mentioned the benefits associated with the use of programmable Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). These programs have provided an understanding to entrepreneurs and engineers moving into mobile communication areas hence gaining knowledge of the art in mobile terminals.
This book is appropriate for students and professors in understanding how the programs work and their benefits to society. Dalhman et al., is one of the books used by communication engineers in their research and development fields since it brings together essential points of reference from leading contributors in the globe. The book has been able to cover a wide range of topics including computers, multimedia data technologies, voice and video. It is a book that comes in handy for those engineers still new in the office for it gives a detailed coverage on the fundamentals, key techniques, and best practices to be observed by engineers plus rules and regulations to be followed.
Horak (2007) wrote a handbook that has been beneficial in providing information regarding technologies and services of telecommunications and data communication industry. This book is very expansive and covers various topics including the internet and therefore, it gives a summary of what needs to be understood concerning the devices applied in the computer systems and programs. Rouphael (2008) is a book that displays how SDR has gained popularity in areas where wireless devices have been applied.
The author has been keen in describing the concepts, theories, and designs used in this system. The introductory part is essential for first time readers and thereafter, an examination of the waveform creations, digital and analog signaling processing, conversion of data, and SDR hardware designs among other topics. The book has been able to offer the reader a powerful set of design and analytical tools, examples of real world designs, and a comprehensive coverage of the wireless industry. Bard & Kovarik (2007) book provides one with a comprehensive and practical overview in building a software communications architecture system that is compliant.
It takes one through the historical and conceptual backgrounds and therefore, helps in filling the existing gaps between the SCA intent specifications and its practices. Some key features have been mentioned and gives an excellent guide to postgraduate and undergraduate students on wireless communication topics. Razavi (1998) book on microelectronics has been relevant for this study because it shows how technology has advance and its effects to communication networks in the world. The book gives detailed examples of how technology has evolved and the future trends expected and how people are coping with the challenges and problems associated with this developmental and environmental change.
Research methodology SDR is a technology that requires researchers to visit the plant and observe how the system works in order to compile a paper that is objective and standard. Therefore, the use of interviews and questionnaires comes in handy in this case study. Recent research conducted shows how the technology was not well received, but with time, people accepted it due to the increase in digital technology.
