Population in Tucson increases at an alarming rate thus forcing excessive pumping of underground water in order to satisfy the demand of the overgrowing demography. As a result, underground water in this region is pumped at a faster rate than its replenishing rate. In this case, the pumping of underground waters in Tucson possess a higher chance of water depletion in the city. This notion might result in the drying of wells, reduction of stream water, deterioration of the quality of water in Tucson as well as land subsidence.

The Central Arizona Project is a water supply and treatment project owned by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. It comprises of 336 miles length system of tunnels, aqueducts, pipelines and pumping ducts. The system is designed to carry water across the state of Arizona. Apart from drinking and agriculture, water from the CAP is used for outdoor recreation, wildlife conservation, and fishing. Wildlife conservation practices and fishing are essential in the economy of Arizona.
