College: Technology Technology has affected our lives in many ways difficult to understand or realize. Many people likes technology a lot because it brings a lot of benefit to them and without it the world would not have been what it is today and so to us. With advancement of technology, human life is made more worth living. Every corner of this universe technology is being embraced. Technology affects people’s lives in everything they do; it makes travelling easier, saves time and enhances learning (Spyker 2007). Technology affects in everything that one can think of, be it eating, treating, social life, sporting and many others. Technology is bridging the cap between people far apart but at the same time distancing neighbors. In modern times, people can’t even imagine their lives without technology. In our midst, technologies are helping people to live their lives more luxuriously (Spyker 2007). The technology sector has changed the development of many products. The technology is providing many advantages but also it has some disadvantages. In the field of communication, technology have make it faster and cheaper while at the same time it has decreased the earlier forms of communication like going to public places and travelling (Spyker 2007). Due to this advancement of technology in the field of communication, people have become more impersonal. The modern means like email are very quick and whatever is communicated is kept and can be referred to in the future. People surround themselves with technology as they distance themselves to others at the same time paying little attention to their need (Muller 2011). With technology, people are on a daily basis building solid relationships with people across the globe. Technology has impacted on the food, with more need to save time fast food have become an option to achieving that. Technology have also taken cooking to a whole new level and one can easily cook by using electrical kettles and other electric equipments that enable one to regulate and control heat (Muller 2011). There is also efficiency with customers in the hotels because one chooses food of its choice and gets cooked within few minutes. The same fast food is also responsible for various health related challenges like obesity. Technology is making it easier for one to access information touching on various aspects of their lives by just goggling. One can easily study in dept by finding information from various sources in the internet. Technology is also offering a lot of entertainments to people. Through YouTube one can watch videos of their choices through the touch on the button (Muller 2011). With internet and a computer one don’t have to buy a radio because radio stations offer online services and one need not also buy a DVDs because all sorts of music can be downloaded from the internet (Muller 2011). One should however be aware that not all information’s in the internet are factual, majority are just opinions. Searches in the internet also have made people to be less thinking. Steve Jobs in the early of 2001 iTunes, and it has made it possible to convince music label executives that people might pay for songs online, iTunes was an unexciting "all-in-one digital music program" that brought together MP3 playback, internet radio and CD writing (Lucas 2008). Apple began letting people access their digital music across any of their devices wirelessly. People are able to watch on televisions program that motivates them and encourage them to keep on. They watch stories from various parts of the world of people who were at the verge of giving up but dint, they pick up the broken pieces of their broken lives and were able to make in live, such people make our role models and we often copy them (Lucas 2008). Some programs however show bad characters and some people copy them. I phone, a product of apple is making people feel that they are much connected with the world. Through the maps, one can look at the terrain and general geography of the places they have never been to. When travelling it is no longer necessary to be asking for directions because I phone has it all in a single handset. Technology has made travelling around the world much easier and people are able to understand cultures of different people in various part of the world. People build and maintain relationship with different people but some times the number of people one builds a relationship with become too many to the extent that the quality make them feel lonely. In the case of social networking one is able to find a long lost friend and be able to reconnect and possibly reunite physically. Through social networking one is able to maintain a relationship that builds in school and thereafter because when you separate you will keep in touch through technology (Lucas 2008). When one is in school or on a work in a place far from home they will be keeping in touch with family members through mobile phones or Skype. Relationship will not easily be broken as well as marriages because one will not miss his spouse so much to necessitate another relationship. Social networking on other hand can cause trouble when one use inappropriately, when can be fired from work for using the site. The site also leads to breakages in marriage due to cases associated with cheats. Perceptions also are big problem because you communicate with someone you don’t actually know. Apple products have a feature called Find My Friends it is a great way to share locations with friends and family. Those who share their locations with you appear on a map so you can quickly see where they are and what they’re up to. And with iOS 6, you can get location-based alerts — like when your kids leave school or arrive home (Lucas 2008). Find My Friends can also notify others about your location, so you can stay connected or keep track of the ones you love. Meaningful relationship is often built through social networking. Good relationship means share life with others and this is made possible with sharing photos and videos as well as texts through the use of phones and other video devices (Volti 2005). Ios 6 from apple make it easier to-do it. You can upload image from phone direct onto face book making it easier to share with friends. iOS 6 have made work of Chinese much easier. You can mix full and abbreviated Pinyin and even type English words in a Pinyin sentence without switching keyboards. And when you add words to your personal dictionary, iCloud makes them available on all your devices. Technology has made also academics cheaper. One can enroll for classes to study online and being able to interact with lecturers in the other foreign countries (Volti 2005). Studying online is cheer because there are no travelling costs and a student doesn’t incur cost of renting a premise within the school. A student also share cost with the parents while studying because you remain with your parents home while studying. However studying don’t keep student fully engaged and you can not interact with your fellow students and engage in after classes discussions. One will be distracted from studies by family members or parents who will assign duties and responsibilities to the student. Without technology some of endemic diseases could have wiped most of the world’s technology. Surgery performance powered by technology have help save lives of many which could have been lost if there was no technology (Volti 2005). Through technology one can be ex-rayed and be told the problem inside the body without need for operation to see what is inside. But technology also brings with it some diseases like cancer associated with food chemicals. Medical discoveries occur at a much more rapid rate, thanks to machines and computers that aid in the research process and allow for more intense educational research into medical matters (Volti 2005). With technology no huge workforces are no longer needed working on the farm because farming have been mechanized thanks to advancement in technology. Technology is also making live of the disable much easier. Those without legs can walk on wheelchairs while those without hands can get artificial hands and be able to obtain the normal shape of human. Some with permanently damaged organs can get new ones through the possibility of organ transplants. Delicate and essential organs like liver or kidney can be transplanted from one person to another. Too much dependency on technology can a times be a disaster because if a computer breaks will mean one is almost totally paralyzed (Volti 2005). People become much disadvantaged because they become less self reliant. Workers also continue to retain less value as work that could have been done by 10 humans is now being done by a machine. The employers are more and more with time requiring fewer employees to work in their firms. in modern days, almost everything has become more convenient and reachable due to technological progress in across all sectors, it may appear to be naive to even mention the disadvantages brought with technology but no matter how technology have made our lives more comfortable there are some disadvantages that comes with this advancement.
