The changing landscape of technology and the Internet has also altered the way in which many interactions with others. The emergence of this has come from various types of technology that is currently available as well as how many interact with these platforms. The main changes are based on the convenience and availability of technology as well as how many associates with the progressions. While the new landscapes are considered progressive, it also has downfalls in providing true social interaction and development of relationships between individuals, leading to a different way in which the definition of being social is implemented.

The social media landscapes are positive in providing networks and updates; however, it also tends to be abused by many and takes away from the natural, physical interactions among friends and individuals. The convenience of technology with human interaction is one which is widely used by friends and family members. The interactions include the convenience of giving information, planning schedules and getting to know what individuals are doing. Using technology as a form of human interaction has become more convenient than meeting with individuals physically.

Remote connections, meeting individuals that normally wouldn’t occur and having continuous updates are some of the changes which are now expected from technology. This has become a substitute for human interaction and makes it more convenient to keep in touch with others through various portals. Everything from mobile technology to social media portals, such as Facebook, provides more interactions that take place remotely and which are easier to be a part of. Since this time, several areas have developed with comments, dynamic text, interactions with others and communication and collaboration which can be enhanced in a variety of ways.

However, the only initiative for this was based on enhanced networking and connections, meaning that the development of the portals has been created specifically to connect with others while interaction is limited to specific trends based on the developed portals (Sreberny, 2000: p. 93). The portals are also misused by those who are interacting, specifically with misunderstandings of how to use the networks. Many try to substitute physical interactions with online connections while the networking is limited to shorter updates and the inability to truly interact.

This causes social media development to be one that offers progression and innovation from one viewpoint but also has altered physical interactions with limitations from Internet developments.
