Swimming in the Ocean at Hawaii - Essay Example

I was born and raised in Xinjiang, China, strategically located in the northwestern part of the country. My city, Urumqi, is considered the furthest city accessible to the Pacific Ocean. There are lakes but the ocean is tremendously distant.My mother loves to swim. She was so good at swimming that competitions were natural choices. Joining the long winter swimming in 2004 was memorable as she was the first female, and only female, until now, who was acknowledged to cross the Ulungur Lake. With an area of 1,035 square kilometers, the lake is one of Chinas ten largest freshwater lakes.

It took her a remarkable 9 hours and 53minutes to cross the lake. I am very proud of my mother. I still remember when my mom was interviewed after the splendid feat, she said: “I am 40 years old already; the purpose of doing this is to tell my only daughter that she can be a strong person just like her mother. Don’t be afraid to face challenges. She believed and supported me when I decided to cross the lake. I will always be there to support and love her.” In the summer of 2009, I visited Hawaii.

The first day after I arrived there, I went to Ala Moana beach. It was a beautiful afternoon. I saw a person who was swimming in the sunset.
