Internet Activities for Teens Following the interview, the internet activities that teens participate in are more connected to very interesting websites, which may or not be good. Approximately, 12 percent of parents thought that their kids accessed porn online. The survey later revealed that 32 percent of teens, got interested and visited porn sites more often (Pappas, 2012). Moreover, 23.3 percent of teens were victims of cyberbullying as opposed to 10 percent of parent's imagination. Therefore, some of the major internet activities that teens engage in include visits to porn sites and cyberbullying more often when they visit the internet. Illegal Territories visited by Teens Internet activities of teenagers extend to the visiting of illegal territories of the internet. According to the interview, youthful online teenagers visit illegal territories where they pirate movies and music online. These intrusions sometimes have legal consequences for parents as reported by Robert Siciliano, an online security expert for McAfee (Pappas, 2012). Besides the visited sites lead to arrest warrants of the teenagers who cause many problems to their parents. Internet activities that teenagers’ engage in are more of illegal participation than genuine considerations. Most teens will want to visit sites that interesting and eye-catching to them such as porn sites and listen to music online, hence interfering with the normal cyber rules. Internet Use by Teens Survey conducted by marketing research firm TRU on 1004 teens and 1013 parents revealed a huge disconnect between parents and teens on the use of the internet (Pappas, 2012). Furthermore, parents believed that their kids spent two hours averagely daily online, contrary to five hours that teens spend each day online. Moreover, 22 percent of parents thought kids checked their social networking sites. The report gave a record of 41 percent as the constant time that teenager was on their social sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites. The report shows an overwhelming time spent by teens on the internet. Teens participate in different activities while they are online as they visit their social sites. Consequently, they experience nasty experiences and suffer bullying while online. The report by marketing research firm revealed that 62.1 percent witnessed online nastiness while 7 percent feared for their safety. The reason behind this is the experiences they face while they are online. Additionally, 5 percent revealed that online incidences had sparked physical fight among them when they are online. Teens Reaction on Internet Use According to the interview, 43 percent of teens confessed that they accessed violent content online while 36 percent alleged they had looked up erotic topics on the internet. Teens who looked up pornography, 43 percent argued that they looked up for pornography sites at least on a weekly basis. Therefore, majority of teens use the internet to visit nasty sites that are addictive. In addition, the internet provides avenues for cheating as the survey found. Forty- eight percent of teens looked up to tests and homework solutions online. Teens tend to use the internet in finding solutions to their assignments and phones during tests to solve problems during tests. Smacking Online Behaviors According to Pappas (2012), Teens hide their online activities after internet use. The report revealed that 70 percent of the teens did something to hide online behaviors such as clearing of web browsers history. Moreover, teens minimized the browser, when their parents walked into their house to keep away information from their parents. These activities by the teens suggest that the majority of them tend to use the internet especially to view bad content or engage in illegal activities while online. Consequently, few parents are aware of this behavior by their kids as most parents argue that technology overwhelms them. It gives more room for teens to use the Internet without restrictions as many parents ignore and allow their kids to use the internet. Parents argue that the use of the internet is technology advancement, which the world needs and therefore teens need to be allowed to use the internet, which they abuse by visiting nasty sites. Strategies for Internet Use by Teens Teen’s regulation on the use of the internet will reduce visits to sites that are not suitable for the teenagers. Therefore, McAfee and other corporations offer parental control software that control kids’ online activities. It prevents most kids from accessing sensitive sites that may corrode and compromise the teen’s minds. Reference Pappas,S.(June 25, 2012).
