Research critical appraisal Research critical appraisal Findings The findings addressed the purpose of the study. The purpose of the study is to find out how nurses decide to ambulate hospitalized older adults (Dohetry & Bowers, 2011). The findings indicate the factors that the nurses consider when they make decisions on whether to ambulate older patients and on how to provide significant insights into the development of other new walking dependence as it relates to the nursing care of the hospitalized patients.
In addition, the data used was sufficiently analyzed since the researcher came up with concepts and themes that emerged from the data. The reason is that when these nurses talked about taking care of patients, they talked about ambulation and other forms of mobility. The nurses talked about mobilizing patients or getting them moving. All these factors and data gathered led to the researcher coming up with various emerging themes for the study. The interpretation of data was congruent with the data collected.
The researcher ensured that the data collected and the interpretation of this data had no variations. This means that the researcher interpreted the data gathered to make the reason for the study and the findings more understandable for the reader. Discussion The results offered new information about the target phenomenon. The reason is that the results were able to bring about other forms of care that the nurses used for their hospitalized patients including the mobilization. The results offered the factors that led to these nurses decide whether to ambulate or not and part of these factors include the characteristics of the nurses.
This enables the reader to learn more about a nurse and the decision they are likely to take whether to ambulate the hospitalized patients or not. The findings were also linked to other studies that found that nurses are not ambulating patients reliably. Thus, the researcher indicates the need for creating a unit culture where walking patients is a priority and a standard of care that should be explored further. There are various significances of the findings. One of them is that the findings enabled the nurses to create an environment of accountability on whether the nurse ambulated the patients.
The risk or opportunity assessment of the nurse in the recovery phase influenced them whether to ambulate patients or not. The nurses were also able to identify that preventing complications was the most important aspect of their work (Dohetry & Bowers, 2011). All these factors were covered by the researcher in the findings of the study. Logic and form of findings The readers were able to hear the voice of the participants and gain understanding of the phenomenon studied. This is considering that the researcher has given the real comments and responses given by the participants of the study.
The reader also easily found the elements of the research report. This is considering that the researcher is concise and reports on all the underlying elements of the study and is able to paint the picture according to the purpose of the study. Thus, the overall presentation of the study fits its purpose, methods and findings since the researcher has conducted ample research on other sources on the same. The researcher has given detailed information about the study, method and the resulting findings.
