1) How are statistics used in your workplace? Statistics is used to monitor and evaluate blood supply to the hospital. Statistics is used to measureinfection rates, mortality and patient falls in the hospital.Statistics is used to track door-to-discharge times. This is the amount of time a hospital visit takes from the moment the patient walks in the door to the moment they are discharged2) What is one example of descriptive statistics used in your workplace? An example of descriptive statistics is the number of patients visiting the hospital every day.
It helps identify the times when the patient load is large and when it is low.It helps the hospital to be better prepared for a high patient low.3) What is one example of inferential statistics used in your workplace? An example of inferential statistics is finding out the relationship between the patient load and customer satisfaction. 4) How is data at each of the four levels of measurements used in your workplace? If your workplace does not use all four levels, describe how data could be used?
The data about the gender of patients is at the nominal level. The data about customer satisfaction can be measured using a questionnaire. It can include questions that ask the customer to rank the features of the hospital which satisfy them. This is an example of ordinal data. The data about customer satisfaction can be measured using a questionnaire with options such as very satisfied, satisfied, and not satisfied. This is an example of interval data. The data about patient load is an example of ratio scale. 5) What are the advantages of accurate interpretation of statistical information to improve decision making in your organization?
Advantage of accurate interpretation of statistical information is it helps in reducing the mistakes made in the past. The hospital watches its patient fall rates and if it’s too high they try to improve their performance and reduce mistakes and make effective decisions.Another advantage of statistical information is that the hospital can plan for future. For example the rate of accidents in a state can help the hospital in preparing for the future.By looking at statistical information like an increase in the number of patients in the intensive care unit ward, the hospital can consider to increase the number of beds in the short run and in the long run look to expand their intensive care unit.
