However, the atmosphere, in reality, is in contrast while including different aspects with unrelated actions in the process. It manages to entice readers due to calmness and informality. The attitude enables discussion of life-threatening issues. The writing catches attention using a normal atmosphere. The contrast is how Staples places the irony in discussing the major issues in a calm tone despite the truths of the racial segregation.

The way Staples writes the nature of the realities termed as black humor. The tone is not familiar, given the fact that the author is the protagonist in the story. He feels part of the problem in society with life-threatening experiences, thus lowering the reader’s expectations. An instance where the author uses contrast to discuss a serious issue with a calm tone is where Staples recalls using past experiences in discussing racism. It is through careful diction and use of language. There is the prevalent use of pathos, ethos, and logos. The credibility of the writing establishes through the use of ethos.

The intelligence in casual writing matches that of a university graduate with high remarks. The ideas further solidify in the presentation of critical concerns. He avoids coming off as an uneducated black man with banter so as not to be labeled a conspiracy theorist. Each claim made in the piece is backed with evidence through the use of logos. It comes at the end of the story. It marks the point where he makes it open to the variations worn by the country people. The translation depicts the deep-seated roots of racial discrimination, as shown by white people.

He makes use of pathos to conclude his ideas that come from various encounters with the racial incited events. The reader witnesses the disregard of empathy, thus creating a better development of ideas in his work. Staples uses a subtle manner in developing the ideas in the story with his writing. The casual tone throughout the work makes the main idea come out clearly. It is an implication of the events of racial segregation and its practice even in the current society. It shows how the black people are on the receiving end.
